Nope. Being poor is not a sin. But neither is being rich.

Heck No. Being greedy is a sin. So say I'm poor and I only have a loaf of bread to eat for the next two days and another poor guy stops by and needs to eat. I share with him and starve for a day. I'll be rewarded later.

Well the Bible says, "Owe no man nothing," which means that one should not be in debt and should work towards financial independence, gain, and humility. God says He will supply your every need, but never mentioned anything about being a lazy bumb. After all, being rich doesn't always have to be associated with money. Do you know how many financially rich people don't have their lives or morals straightened out?

Being poor is not a sin.

Allowing poverty to exist is a sin.

Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.

Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
- by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
- by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
- by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
- by protecting evil-doers.

Thus sin makes people accomplices of one another and causes lust, violence, and injustice to reign among them. Sins give rise to social situations and institutions that are contrary to the divine goodness. "Structures of sin" are the expression and effect of personal sins. They lead their victims to do evil in their turn. In an analogous sense, they constitute a "social sin."

Poverty is a social sin caused by injustice for which we are all responsible.

With love in Christ.

No. I am poor on this earth, but rich in the Lord. My Father owns it all. He promised me a Home in Heaven, the day He saved my soul.

The Bible tells you to be poor. And Adam & Eve were kicked out of Eden for eating at the Tree of Knowledge.
