I work for a German company here in Oxford in the UK, one of my co-workers, a German chap once said to me, quite seriously might I add...

"This factory is a part of Germany, you are just guest workers"

In all honesty after a few years of working with them, they do seem to have a sort of "superiority complex".
When they get flown home to Germany if it is a British Airways flight you hear them complaining to your face "Sh*t English airline, with sh*t English food..etc..." They can never ever find anything nice to say about England.
They get put up in a nice hotel but evidently it is just a "sh*t English hotel "
We have sh*t English buses, sh*t English TV, sh*t English trains, the list is endless.
It used to make me quite angry once, but now it just makes me think that they are pathetic bunch of ungrateful racists with a huge chip on their shoulders.
I gather from some of the British guy`s that have been to Germany that they treat you very well when you are over there, but complain about you behind your back.

Those of a higher class, upper management, one or two of them are quite nice, with normal human good manners, but one of our previous MD`s was the most stupid, childish men I have ever met.

Oh as a bit of an `aside` one guy we quite liked, he was friendly and funny and would help anyone...then we found out he was actually Russian..hahahaha..how funny is that ?
His name is Alex.."Hi man..if you are reading this you will know who you are, nice to work with you, really it is"

In my section of the factory we have 28 different nationalities and who knows how many different religions, we all get on very well with each other. So I would think we are not generally racist...but the Germans..wow..unbelievable the things they say about us all, I joke not, if we were to say such things in the street we would be in prison !

One could easily conclude from your question that you "have a big problem" with the Germans and are "flipping rude." If you are willing to judge an entire nation based on a few bad experiences, you fulfill the definition of a racist. If you would rather not be perceived that way, then you need to remember that every community includes good people, bad people, and everything in between.

I lived in Germany last year and found them to be really nice people, though always direct and to the point. This could be construed as rudeness. As for them having a problem with the English, they don't. Simple as that. You've just had some bad luck.

I don't think its down to the nationality more about the person them selves, i was born in england but all german in blood and as far as i can tell and told im a nice person, considerate and polite.
try judging them on their personality instead of which country they were born in, you might just find that you get a better response off of them.
Question is was your attitude towards them like this before they were rude to you or after?

I think I can see what you mean. I remember being on a boat in Fiji once, stood at the rail, taking in the view and this middle-aged German just about bundled me overboard and stole my place without so much as an apology. He had no more right to be there than I did, unless a penchant for bratwurst and an umlaut in his name made him honorary captain.

Maybe, you have just met the wrong people. It's true that not all Germans are nice (but not all people are nice anyway), but I stayed in Germany for 3 months and I met so many wonderful people that outnumbered the unkind ones.

Well dear, I am half-german, so I assume my English side must be the nice bit. Alternatively, maybe my split personality is down to me being a Geminii.

Have a lovely weekend / erhalten Sie ein leben?

actually I think it's even ruder to say "erhaltst-du ein leben".

maybe because germans tend to be "direct" you perceive it to be rude.

i noticed that people in english speaking countries tend to be more "phoney" and will smile and be overly friendly.

i personally don't like the whole acting thing.

i prefer directness. let me know what's on your mind right away instead of dancing around with friendly words only to let me find out later on what you could have told me right then and there.

maybe that's why germans are known to be more efficient. they don't waste time dancing around pretending to like something when they really don't.

Lol it is true, unless you go to
Germany, for some reason they are ok in Germany, although i was once told 'You don't belong here'. I was just laughing and told them that if it wasn't for us then Russia would have completly destroyed Germany which made them pritty angry.
But they bloody started it.

I think its because they are just nuts.

You probably just have not met enough of them. What part of Germany were you in? East Germany is still recovering.
