Because most of the people do not want to do the rights thing and therefore it is easier to take other people's defects as a pretext for not doing the right thing.
But with that affirmation the question is not what other will do, but, what will you do?
Will you do the right thing no matter that others do not want to do it and no matter what faults you see in others or will you take them as pretexts for not doing the rights thing. It is your decision.
I choose to do the right thing because it is possible, because God enabled you to always do the rights thing and therefore, it is our duty to do it. Will you join me?
