It's just laziness Tom, that's all.

I suppose it depends on the situation. On MSN I tend to type very fast, and so I will abbreviate phrases such as "by the way" to btw, and "be right back" to brb, but I don't tend to text type the way I do to save characters on text messages. I certainly don't do so on here, as it is more formal, and the questions require comprehendable answers. You're typing to people who you do not know, some of whom may not possess English as a first language and as such, may not be able to decipher the text format.
However, my brother uses text language because he is dyslexic, and it is less embarrassing for him, as it looks like his responses are deliberately incomprehensible.
So although it does annoy me on here, I guess the odd few have excuses.

it doesn't annoy me because you never know why they are typing that way. are there any rules about how you type your message whether it be text or proper English? no. if you don't like it simply don't read it, but if you understood it, what the h*ll is the problem? stop criticizing people for being different than you. that is what annoys me. i mean to each his own, everyone has an opinion, everyone is a critic.

Does it annoy me, no, it does more than annoy me and I can't say how much or I might be getting a violation if I do, its rude and bad mannered, but then again those illiterates might have this as the only form of spelling, guess we have to feel sorry for them for their lack of education hey.

It annoys me that some users can't spell or don't proof read before they submit their answer, half the time it's like trying to decifer double dutch.

Cuz izda bomb! Um, is that how it goes? I'm always texting on my mobile, but I'm afraid most text-speak I find undecipherable (sp?). I will sometimes cheat with an 'altho' but that's as much as I shorten my text.

very much so!
I agree with the above poster it must be laziness.
It also makes the posters who use text look less intelligent..
I have no idea why they think its 'cool'
but I must admit I have been guilty of a few acronyms... LOL etc.
