You can thank the liberals for the problems we are having now. We have to all be SO sensitive to other cultures and believe that we don't have one of our own! There is so much anti-American sentiment everywhere that it is destroying this country and it has been overrun by the foreign people. I find it obnoxious and disgusting that they come here now, EXPECTING to be taken care of without having to assimilate into our society. They act as if they have more right to be here than we do, all the while bashing our culture. Thank you for making a good point about the way things used to be.

Lots of things were handed to them - for starters the right to enter this country. By the 1920s immigration had been greatly restricted and remains so today, this is why so many enter the USA illegaly. The other thing that was handed to them was all the rights and protections of american citizenship. Immigrants were almost immediately handed citizenship in the USA. Today the vast majority of immigrants are not citizens, they are illegals, and even the legal immigrants are not citizens. So they are not americans, and are not therefore as interested in assimilating. After all, why assimilate when the USA could send them home at any minute? This is not the way it was back in the early 1900s.

Immigrants back in the day valued and treasured coming to America, and did it the right way because of the dreams they had for themselves here. There are too many immigrants today that take it for granted, are extremely ignorant and want us LEGAL AMERICANS to cater to their language and culter. Not only that, they want everything handed to them on a silver platter.
My family has been on this land since 1767 and my mother's family came over from Ireland in the 1900's LEGALLY. My great grandmother mentioned that even though she was Irish, she could speak english and that made her proud to be an American citizen. Where is the pride in this country and where is the support for those before us and now defending this great country? Obviously there is very little pride to be an American anymore hence why there are so many illegal immigrants breeding a litter of children so they can suck our economy dry and take advantage of this great country. I'm going to make a bumper sticker that says... 'GOT LEGAL???' anyone interested in one???

Back then our country was not as populated. there was land and places for people. These people left their homes for hope and the American dream. they struggled and worked hard and welfare and hand-outs were a last resort. They came here to live and work hard, not to live off the government, get free education, health care and food stamps. They built homes and farms and schools and struggled. They were legal and documented. Most of the illegals that are here now are here because they can get a free ride, benefits that they don't pay for. They rarely if ever pay taxes and send most of their money back to their country to feed that economy, on our dime. If the immigrants of the past were handed anything it was hope for a new life. Today it's just hope for a free ride.

The point is the government knew who was coming in. These people were registered (i.e. documented), they went yearly to the post office to pay their registration fee. They worked hard, and didn't just expect to receive anything. AND THEY PAID THEIR TAXES! They wanted to be a part of their new land - they didn't try to change the NATIONAL ANTHEM to any other language, they learned English, supported this country...they became Americans.

You obviously don't know how hard it is to become legal in america now.Lawyers fees:$1,950.Maybe more.Immigration fees:$2,000 more or less.Doctor fees for physical:$200.00 because there are only a few specific doctors immigration uses.Immigration photos +fingerprinting:$100.00.And there are other minor charges also.
I'll bet that ANY illegal here in america would run at the chance to become legal by the means you mentioned above^ ^ ^.They'd be kissing the ground all around here and we'd have 2 million Mr&Mrs.Smiths or Browns all over the U.S. If only it was that easy now,we wouldn't be having all these immigration problems now.
Nothing is handed to immigrants now.Grow up.

Yes that is true, and that is the correct way of doing things...
Unlike the Illegals Mexicans and other Nationallities that are infiltrating our borders to the South at this time, and going back and forth as if its an open border...
When the Terrorists start to come via that way, "then" we may do something? Lets pray its sooner we do something, than too late...
I wish you well...

Maybe we need to revert to the immigration/social service policies that were in effect back then. That could cure or at least minimize the ridiculous stuff that's going on now.

The old ways are just that " the old ways" Mexicans don't think like that , they think coming here, will "GIVE" them a better life without any effect on there parts, fine example " why learn English" ? why get a green card? why come here legally? Heck they come here, we give them our jobs free health care and even room and board.. which should stop...

People would be much more tolerant of immigrants (legal or illegal) if they had that same attitude of that which you speak. I am not condoning illegal immigration, but it would make more sense regarding 'looking for a better life', etc. Instead, immigrants want US to cater to THEM. It is a privilege to be here and not a right.
