If I had the money, I'd travel through Europe by train. I'd start in Russia and go East. I'd stop wherever my heart desired and I'd stay as long as I'd like to stay.

I have been to almost the whole world but the place I would love to go again is definitely the one and only Japan the land of rising sun and most civilized and hospitable people. From Japan I will love to travel to Philippines another heaven on earth. I think you should not have changed your mind as Malaysia and Thailand are not bad destinations either.

Greece. Your money will take you a long way. My advice: Book a hotel for 2 nights before you arrive and once you are there check out another place you might enjoy staying. The beaches are amazing, the people are gracious and friendly and most speak english. The food and wine is delicious. You can hop on a boat to Italy if you like from there very easily and cheaply. The history is magnificent. I loved my 6 weeks there. Also book your island hopping from Athens instead of from the US to save money. Enjoy!

malaysia should be your choice because is definitely safer compared to Thailand.
in the month of January and February in malaysia, you will be able to experience the Chinese New Year. check the calenders for details on this. highly recommended you to visit the official site by Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (Malaysian Ministry Of Culture, Arts And Tourism) http://www.tourism.gov.my/
also, next year malaysia is celebrating 50th year independance, and the Visit Malaysia 2007 campaign is on, therefore you'll get lots of happening events, chances of big discounts in shopping.
while you are in Malaysia, visit the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, climb the highest mountain in South East Asia - Mount Kinabalu, and experience the diversity of cultures and food.

I'd go to Brazil.
First get to see the Amazon forest, then travel to Natal and Bahia to see the culture and amazing beaches. Then I'd go to Bonito, MS to see dive in the rivers with almost the most clear water in the world, then I'd got to the south of Brazil, and see Florianópolis, a tiny island with an amazing surf-relaxed-hiking and-luau-at-sunsets culture. ;)
If you wanted to go to Thailand you are probably seeking for a place with warm weather and different culture.

I suggest you try to think of Philippines particularly in Legaspi City in Albay Province Philippines. Try this link... http://purpleeyes-mayonvolcano.blogspot.com/
Possibly the best offer you can have is to witness the expected eruption of Mayon Volcano...the World's Most Perfect Cone!!! The said volcanic activity is considered to be a world class attraction considering it only happens once in 6-10 years. Its safe, wonderful and marvelous! The accomadations here are inexpensive plus you can enjoy truly tropical resorts and islands. Legaspi City( bout 500kms southeast of Manila) is accessible (from Manila Philippines) by land (Bus-10hr ride) by air (45 mins) and by sea (optional). Fares are quite cheap. Enjoy eating fresh-from-the-seas seafoods and native delights. There are lots of of places you can visit. from hot and cold springs to beaches and wildlife parks, etc....truly a tropical outdoor environment.
