I don't think so.. If it's by the Holy Spirit, how come we don't understand them? Why not use a language that we all can understand? What if it's a prayer to Satan since we don't know what is being said by the speaker? If that is something Christian, believers should be wise enough that it is something fake or kind of a work by the devil.... The devil can deceive us in so many ways and can use whatever we believe in. If we continue to believe that it is the Holy Spirit that gives this SPEAKING-OF-TONGUES thing, the devil will continue to use it....

I am a United Methodist, and we don't speak in tongues. My husband is Catholic and they don't speak in tongues. I think that Pentecostals do speak in tongues. I'm really not sure of the logic behind it. At Pentecost (recorded in the book of Acts in the Bible), the deciples all spoke in different languages so that everyone, no matter what language they spoke, could understand them. But they were speaking real languages, not gibberish. When Pentecostals speak in tongues, they speak gibberish and then have an interpreter tell everyone what the gibberish means. I don't believe in it myself. Hopefully a Pentecostal will see this question and give us a better understanding of it.

at the tower of Babel, ppl were divided on the basis of languages. whn the apostles first spoke in tongues the ppl around them cud understand them in their own language. so Tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit granted so tht ppl all over the world could hear The Word. n its not the methodists, baptists or catholics who can speak in tongues, ne n every person who believes in Christ is annointed by the Spirit n hence speaks in tongues......

No - it is a sign of an absent mind !
Why I say this ? You get engrossed in the whole thing so much, suddenly you know what you wanna say but run out of words - you are so much in to it, you feel shivers down your spine - cooled down body etc. This is a physical change that happens due to psychological misinterpretation.

I know many baptists who speak in tongues, they just know to do it in their prayer closets, as they know without interpretation it causes confusion. Speaking in tongues is not necessary for nor evidence of salvation! This is a false doctrine! Many speak in tongues not of God's gift and this causes even more confusion. Speaking in tongues edifies oneself without an interpreter present. And again, there are those that do it for show and confusion as well.

you know when something inside you told you not to do a thing or to do the thing and either way we ended up saying "i should have listened to my self' there is your holy spirit, guiding you everyday.speaking in any language without an interperter isn't holy and scripture says so.

IT does make sense my friend....
its not the toungue, its the content of the message and the ability of those people to deliver the word of God...
Though they belief are different, there practices varies from one another but one thing for sure their goal is to promote LOVE to one another, respect one another....
remember theres no such religion that can save you... theres no religion that would say ill bring you to heaven....
