A partner that you can talk to, laugh with, do things with, compromise with. I'm not perfect, neither is he. We don't expect each other to be perfect. We don't expect each other to be mind readers, either - he can't know what I'm thinking unless I TELL HIM, and if I get mad because he "should have known what I was thinking" then it's MY fault, not HIS.

IMHO communication is a big key. Learning how to fight fair and disagree without attacking each other and making it personal. Letting the past lie in the past once it's resolved, and not bringing stuff up three years down the road "Well you did THIS three years ago." (Yeah, and we talked about it then and it got resolved, so why is it an issue now??)

People say marriage is perfect because they love each other very much and they have been together for a LONG time.
I say it isn't really perfect. Couples do have fights and then perhaps resolved. Many couples don't last and get a divorce.
I have great grand parents who lived happily for almost 7-something years. Now that big WOW.
I guess I would use the term perfect when I love someone very much and we both are truly meant to be together and that we live happily for a long time..perhaps till our death.

Not perfect at all. Nothing is perfect. But you can still have a long wonderful happy life with the right partner. I'm married to one of the most wonderful men I've ever met in my entire life and we argue occasionally and have our disagreements but I would never want to wake up without him.
