NO! You need to work with the dog slowly and teach him/her to like having it done. Touch a foot, give a treat over and over until they look forward to having foot touched. Step it up a notch, pick up a foot, give a treat. Then pick up toe nail clippers, and as long as the dog is still ok with it, clip a nail, give a treat. Do this daily (except the actual clipping, of course) and make sure this is the ONLY time you give treats. Dogs do what works, and if that means sitting still for toenail clipping gets you a treat, then that's what he'll do. If fighting you means you stop clipping, then that's what he'll do. Take it slow, practice everyday, and keep it at a comfortable level for your dog. Be patient and it will pay off.

I have never heard of a chihuahua or any dog being declawed but maybe you mean dewclawed because I have heard of that. It can be done at any age but is best at a young age. Please do not declaw your chihuahua because it is very mean. It is even mean to declaw a cat because if they escape from inside the house and something hurts them then they will die because they won't be able to climb up a tree to get away. The same thing goes for chihuahuas because they are so little and they can climb trees too. Think about it before you have it done if you can have it done.

take him to a groomer, NO VET will declaw a dog (even dewclaw removal has to be done before the dogs 3 days old!) and declawing ANY animal is very painfull, they dont actually just remove the claw but remove the third toe joint, how would you like it if someone removed the ends of your fingers and toes because you didnt like your nails cut?!

If you cant keep him still for his nails done take him to your vet or groomer for it done, it should only cost $5 - $10 to have it done (the higher number at your vet uusally) and you wont have to worry about it!

No it unheard of. !The practice of animal declawing is viewed by many veterinarians and animal experts as an act of cruelty. The Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights (AVAR) has stated that "declawing is generally unacceptable because the suffering and disfigurement it causes is not offset by any benefits to the animal. Declawing is done strictly to provide convenience for people! Take your dog for more walks on hard ground. If that's not possible, take your dog to a vet,and have him sedated, then he won't know about it!! There is always an alternative to animal cruelty!!!!

No, absolutely not. Although this surgery is commonly performed on cats, I doubt seriously that you would be able to locate a vet that would do a de-claw on a dog. (simply because his nails are difficult to cut) A surgical de-claw would actually involve removing the dog's digits. It would be painful and extremely cruel to perform this surgery on a dog. (Although de-clawing is commonly performed on cats, I am sure it is equally painful.)

If you are unable to cut your Chihuahua's nails, take him to a vet or even a groomer to have it done.

Take her to a vet or grooming salon and have them do it. PetSmart has a puppy package and it's $9.99 for grooming and clipping of nails.

It's common in house cats but I have never heard of a
de-clawed dog and I'm sure there is a good reason for that.
