.like me
calling you a cheapskate got my back right up!!
My 6 year old has made play dough with me,
(find a recipe online) just flour food colouring etc,
she's also enjoyed threading pasta shapes on to string and making nanny jewellery... can paint it too...
she's collected feathers and leaves form the parks and make 'bird' pictures with them...or trees etc from twigs and leaves, just the price of some pva glue or a pritt stick
i got her a load of chalk that she used all over the garden (comes off in the rain..
also wallpaper pinned to an outside wall or fence?
draw his outline and then let him paint him self...
she gathered all her teddys in the garden and made a circus ring...they are the audience and she gets each bear to 'perform'
you watch, give input and clap randomly, got a hula hoop? football?? hankies for juggling? a bucket and rolled up socks for bean bags?
give him loads of cheers for being the best one in the circus...
just as a side note, i have 5 kids, the are all 19 17 15 and 12...
and 6..
whilst talking the other day, the best memories they have are the things that my NOW 6 year old is doing...they keep saying *I* remember that with you!!
they DONT remember theme parks and zoos with as
much fondness...
people that offer farms and swimming and such obviously have no money worries, and aren't on a tighter than a gants g string budget, cheapskate my AR*SE..
hope you have fun..

How about playing some card games? You can usually get a deck of cards real cheap (Walgreen's). Or how about going outside with a football or a ball and play catch? Then, there's always playing Hangman. All you need is a piece of paper for that. And, if the weather's not good, how about curling up on the couch with a good movie and some popcorn? How about inviting some of his friends over for the day? Either way, enjoy the time with your son. They grow up way too fast.

How about fishing?
It can be as expensive or cheap as you like.
If you live anywhere near the coast, you could get a couple of cheapo rods or even drop-lines and go to a pier.
You'd get lots of fresh air, and it's exciting for kids.
You could both get a cheap set-up and a day's bait for under £30.
Next time, it will only cost you about £3 for bait.
Stay safe though.

Go for a picnic - pack a football and frisbee to keep him amused afterwards and perhaps go there by bus instead of driving to make the experience a little different. Search around your house for things like scraps of paper, glue, toilet rolls, empty cereal boxes and cut up old magazines to make collages, or if you're feeling really creative and you can find a marble, make a marble run/chute with all the boxes etc and have fun rolling the marbles down! :)

Your very lucky, 6 year olds are still contemp to keep themselves busy, you just have to provide the idea, for example, tell him to build his own town. Explanation: He has got toy cars? Well take him outside, help him gather some raw material, just laying around for example: pieces of wood or metal, then you both start by building your town, houses road formations the lot, you'll help for 10 minutes and then you can leave him alone, he'll continue on his own for days because every night he'll think of new ways to improve his town.
Cheers

o.k so hes 6 and youve done most things- where do you live- u.k?
in my area the local council have regular activities for kids throughout the summer.
the other day i took my nephew for a day out- the whole day cost loads of money and the thing he most enjoyed was paddling in a public fountain which was free!
also enjoyed getting a massive peice of paper and some paint and standing in it and making a messy picture
also when very hot playing water fights in the park with water pistols.
cooking
surprisingly some kids seem to enjoy being involved in house work ?!

The beach is always a winner. Also i love to take my son out on a magical mystery trip, looking for pirates or spoogal monsters that live in the local forest and leave small presents for him - the odd lolly-pop, marble that sort of thing. Getting him involved and using his imagination are the main things. he also loves the swimming baths when it's raining out, and goes to bed very tired in the evenings after a good swim. hope that helps.

Tie dye an old t-shirt with natural dyes, go on a treasure hunt, paint and draw, if you have a camcorder then make a 'Batman' or 'Superman' movie, make a draughts game on your patio from stones or shells, make musical instruments out of rubbish and form a band, invite lots of friends over for a party (get them to each bring some sweet or savoury food), get out the old photographs and make a scrap book or pictorial family tree, get him to write to a relative and wait for the reply, make a playhouse or tent out of sheets in the garden, look in the local paper for local events, check out the library for activities, make some playdough (everyone loves it - make it sparkly with glitter), do some cooking.......... Ok I off for a coffee! Have fun!!

Take him to the beach with a couple of friends and a picnic that you have made at home. The kids can run around and entertain themselves, while you sit back and and read a book.
