I have had an experience with asian doctors and they act as if they own the world. They only tell and don't listen. Why?

I generally don't like foreign doctors as a rule. Not because they're of a different race, but because there's usually a huge language barrier and it's almost like they don't really listen to what I'm telling them.

My sister used to work at a teaching hospital, and she said that many doctors come here to get their educaction. When it comes time to take the state boards, all the foreign doctors who *barely* pass (or don't pass at all!) go back to their respective countries. People flock to them because they have an American education...who cares if they're sh!tty doctors, right?

My old internist was horrible. Barely spoke English (I think he was Chinese.). I went in for what I thought was a bladder infection. Urine culture came back negative so what does he do? Gives me a prescription for Vicodin. HELLO?! I know what vicodin is, but I tested him... I told him I had two young kids at home and I didn't want anything that would make me loopy or tired. Would this? Oh no...no no, you'll be fine. I thanked him for his time, left my script on the exam table and left.

I don't know what's wrong with these doctors...

It has nothing to do with the doctor's ethnicity. Many doctors have the same attitude - it isn't dependent upon race. Doctors feel they're responsible for a lot of life or death situations - "do what I say and I'll let you live" - so some are often arrogant. Others are humble and feel they're working with the assistance of God to save lives when it's possible. Just like any other group of people, there are nice ones and nasty ones.

Hmmm... I have an Asian dentist and he is and grade A asshole, acted just like you say. However, I know and Asian cardiovascular surgeon who is just the sweetest, funniest man. I don't really think it's their race so much as the fact that they are human. Some people are jerks, some aren't. It's unfortunate that you have had enough bad experiences to make it seem like it is Asians.

I'll have to say that you're unlucky you met those kind of people. I live in an Asian country and I haven't encountered such kind of doctors before. Maybe they're in the impression that they know more than the patients. I dislike these kind of people. They make bad images of Asian people and also doctors.

Which nationality are you pertaining to Don't generalize asian doctors because I know a lot of filipino doctors who are just as compassionate to patients with great sense of humor and a bedside manner that most caucasians look for in their doctors. So which part of asia do those doctors you mentioned come from?

I know exactly what you mean. I have had dealings with many asian doctors here in the UK, through my work and personally a couple of times. They tend to look down on you, have absolutly no sympathy, and treat you as if you were an inanimate object! Maybe it's the language/culture differences. All I know is, they don't really want to hear what you've got to say and like to make their own assessments based on a quick judgement that is not thorough enough. I have learnt to ignore this and repeat what I have to say until they acknowledge it and give me an answer. Don't let them intimidate you... after all, it's your body and your life.. and they ar eno better than you just because they went to uni for a few years

they are compensating for not being very well endowed. My sister slept with several asian men & told me this was true. She is a real tramp.

In Asia, doctors are regarded like GODs. In Asia you never question your elders and your educated people who are superior than you and they take care of you.
