When you read the Koran you will find that there is a lot of good teachings in it. However just like many other religions there are some people who use Islam for their evil gains. They have twisted the teachings of the prophet. You will be surprised to find out that Islam, Christianity and Judaism have common roots. They are all Abrahamic religion.
When people make what you call silly comments is because the people who commit these crime claim to be to Moslem's. It is unfortunate that sometimes things we do is associated with our background, it could be religion or ethnic. Just imagine how a mistake of one footballer coasted his nation so much. There are so many Moslem's who are good, but the activities of those with twisted mind paints a bad picture for Islam.

You are right. I have lived in a Muslim country for a number of years and find that Muslim people are good people who are confronting many of the same problems everyone else is facing. And prejudice and ignorance on our part certainly won't help either them or us in getting through this difficult transition to modernity! It is, of course, difficult to study any religion these days without getting tangled up in mutually conflicting theological additions, but it's still worth the effort reading the original scripture. Just because historically there were terrible things done in the name of Christ doesn't mean it's not worth reading the Sermon on the Mount. As for the people causing so much trouble in the world who presume to speak in the name of Islam, the Qur'an has an apropos verse regarding them: "And when it is said to them: 'Cause not disorders in the earth,' they say, 'Nay, rather do we set them right.'" (2:11)

robmartin, there is an issue between some Sunnis and some Shi'ites - but Islam is not the only religion to have such clashes. The Protestants and Catholics have similar problems.
eric_bloodaxe, until you understand and learn about Islam, how can you hold such a firm belief that it's wicked ??
There are far too many small-minded Daily Mail readers in this website :o(

i am a muslim, so no1 can teel u awbout muslims better than i can. Yes there r some weirdos in our religion, but that doesn't mean that each and every one of us are terrorist. Some muslims keep beards because our Prophet(peace be upon him) kept a beard. The meaning o Islam is peace, love and happiness. If u just have a glance at our Holy book the Quran, then u will understand us better. But u can also mail me at orittra_re@yahoo.com if u have any more things to know about my religion.

I am very sorely disappointed by the sheer volume of silly comments in reply to this question. I know the basics of Islam, but not much more. I respect that they have much stricter laws than first world countries, and I respect that as it can reduce crime.
The problem comes from a minority of muslims who interpret the Koran in such a way that they think it tells them to wage holy war. The majority of muslims don't actually read this in to the Koran.

Slightly more than the fellas answering this question... I'm not Muslim but live in a majority Muslim country.... Learned Islamic Civilisation and History in school as an optional paper and read a lot about other religions... Peaceful religion, actually we all live happily together. I'm not worried about them or their religions here...

Do you think Bill gates got to where he was because he considered the feelings of the people who started apple? Realise no one cares. The majority of people don't hate you, nor do they like you, but get in their road and they'll run you over. This is really applicable to the stupid ones who think praying on a main street during peak hour is going to get them sympathy.

I have little knowledge of this religion, but I feel it's unjust to judge all on the madness of a few Fundamentalists.
I personally have no belief in a god, but respect people who do not hate me for my non-belief, but get to know me as a person and form their opinion based on that.

Actually, for R.E i had to do i project on Muslims and Islam, and let me tell you, there were so many things i knew about them after. I know that they have hand slaughtered animals and cannot drink alchoholic drinks and cannot eat pork. It is really fascinating to know about another religion.
