I need a code for my stereo, I have been told of Renault sometimes imprinting the code on the stereo? If this is true where is it? Also how do I remove the stereo, and are there any shortcuts to giving my local dealer £129 to reset the code. I never got given the books with radio codes otherwise i would not ask, and Serious Answers please.

A lot of companies put the code on a sticker at the back of the stereo.

I'm not sure about Renaults of that age, but a lot of manufacturers used the standard stereo fittings. You could look on eBay for the tool (it's two pieces of metal both shaped like 'U' that you push into each corner of the stereo face until you here a click, then you pull it out again). Once the Stereos out, you can look for the code sticker. If there isn't one. Then you will either have to go to a car stereo place to get the code reset or removed. OR Go to your dealer - I'm sure the first is a lot cheaper.

If your lazy like me, you would just go to the dealer and ask them to do the first step for you too :) Just cos they pull your stereo out doesn't mean your gonna pay them for a new code ;)

in my dark and murky past, a coded radio would spend a night in the freezer, et voila! it worked the next day. highly unlikely that any manufacturer would put the damn s-e-c-u-r-i-t-y code on the radio itself, kinda defeats the object doesn't it. yes, if you can track the original dealer they may well have the code, if not look in the back of autotrader, plenty of people offering to decode radios, even take a few miles off your car...
