I have a ticket through ANA (Japanese Airline) coming home mid September, but I want to come home within the next week. They are telling me all flights and wait lists are booked for nearly 3 weeks, but their website shows that they have flights available. Should I go to Bangkok and try to stand by or buy a new ticket entirely? And, if I buy a new ticket - How should I do it to get the best price? I want to go home within the next week.

Hi there.
It's REALLY REALLY hard for you to standby at this time of year. Just so you know .. it goes by seniority. The highest miller will get in the list b4 u do... They still have space available to sell on their site b/c just incase some do not show up.. However, if they over sold, they will ask for a volunteer to stay and they also give that pax a voucher...
Think again b4 u wanna waste a couple more hundred. As far as I know, those tkt are not refundable if it's partialy used.

Sorry, not trying to scare you, but due to current ' security issue', think the waitlist might be getting shorter. Not surprise that some will cancel flight to SFO. Think you should try checking next couple of days before coming out more $$.

Also, dont think yours is a direct flight ( think ANA will transit in Japan ), you might check if eg. yours BKK-NRT-SFO ( which sector is out ). Cant advise much, talk to their office, they might have some option ( bring your ticket down to their office, they might like to know type of ticket you holding ).

have you checked, if yr tkt can be rerouted ? Instead of going to SFO going to LAX or Seattle. Perhaps then you have more chances to get a confirmation next week. And a tkt within US won't cost as much as a new tix from BKK to SFO.

Good luck

i think you should just wait until your travel day on your ticket to return. unless you have an emergency and need to get home quick you should relax and see more of thailand. trying to switch your ticket or buying a new will just cost you more and wasting time to try to buy a new ticket.
