French would probably be better. Even if you don't deal with French companies, you may deal with Canadian companies in the province of Quebec, and they speak French as a first language up there.

French has more demand in the work force. Italian is very similar to Spanish, if you learn Spanish well I assure you that you will be able at least to read italian. You could even pick it up by yourself, if you're good with languages, because it's easy once you know others with the same roots. So I'd tell you to go for French.

I would say French would be in demand more than Italian, although I'm not sure either really is. Also, though, I am French- American, and taking Spanish was cake. I took 4 years high school, and 2 college, and aced it all the way. French and Spanish are so similar, that if you know one, the other is a breeze.

Well, if you learn French you'd have a business advantage in dealing with Quebecois firms. On the other hand, it's probably easier -- if you're already studying Spanish intensively -- to get good grades in Italian. I have studied all three languages, and there's more of a "sympathy," if you will, between Spanish and Italian than between French and either of them. Spanish and Italian vowels are very similar and very clear, neither language has the nasals of French ("un bon vin blanc"), and the vocabularies of the two languages are similar in many ways.

French is more in demand, because it more widely spoken. While Spanish, Italian, and French all have origins from the Roman Empire, Italian is closer to Spanish than French. Italian pronunciation is almost always consistent, like Spanish. You should take Latin also if you have a chance.

I don't think French or Italian are in demand in the U.S., so either one would be O.K. Keep in mind tha Italian is more similar to Spanish than French, so it could be good (easier to learn) and bad (you could mix the two languages that you're learning). French would be more difficult, but since it is not so similar, you would not get so confused.
I think it's great you're going to get a degree in Spanish, good luck!
