I really want to go away but none of my friends can afford it at the moment, but I have the itch & want to go now! Is it safe to go to Thailand alone? I'm a bit nervous I wouldn't go out on my own, but is it different when you're overseas?

DON'T listen to these other answers. I was only 21 yrs old, blonde, proud American and female when I went by myself. I started in China then headed down to Vietnam, Cambodia and all over Thailand. I was gone for over two months and never had any major problems. In Thailand I met some other girls on the train down to the islands and shared a room with them in Ko Phi Phi. Then in Bangkok I met a girl from Spain and hung out with her. When I went to Chaingmai I hung out every day with another girl from Australia. There are a ton of alone females that are there for you to meet up with and hang out. As long as you stay in guesthouses and not hotels you will meet people. I had originally planed this trip with another girl and she backed out. I preped myself for going alone by using www.lonelyplanet.com web site. You can post questions on there from real travelers who know what they are talking about. It seems that the people on here don't really know what they are saying. It is safe there, I never felt like I was in danger, as long as you use common sense. You can email me if you have more questions. send me your real email address when you do though cause I am having problems replying to people.
There is nothing like traveling alone. You really learn a lot about yourself! Now that I am married I think back and am so glad I did it when I had the chance, cause I will never do it again! Go for it!

Well tis safe so far, but dont trust strangers easily. If u want to explore tourist spots do it during morning time and avoid places which are secluded ( in case you go for island hopping or say diving) make sure you got the contact number of your embassy. Learn the basic thai language like giving directions, numbers. JUst make sure you wear appropriate type of clothing, people in thailand are conservative a bit so if a person is wearing flimsy clothing and the areola is so pronounce then some guys might be interested or say do something.Observe dress code in thailand.

You'd be pretty safe, probably. It's not really that dangerous. But you should take precautions. Don't get too close to any Thai guys, really. But try to hang out with other travelers, hang out where backpackers hang out, and maybe even find a travel buddy while you're there, and you'll be safe. You could hit Khao San Road in Bangkok for one night and find a travel buddy there, if you're outgoing enough to talk with lots of people. I've met girls traveling alone in Thailand and they seemed fine, but just take normal precautions.

Actually everything is depending on you. Ask your parents maybe they can give you right answer. It depends on you because if you think you are enough for your ownself then I have nothing to say. But you have to agree with it girls are different than boys about it. I mean boys can go eveywhere & it doesnt make any problem. But girls cant do it because they are girl & anything can happen with them like they can be raped they can be forced etc etc. But some girls dont care about it & its not a matter for them to be raped or forced & they accept it with pleasure. So if you are not this type of girl then I would tell you not to go alone but if you are oversmart & dont care about it then you can go alone everywhere you need.

I live in Thailand. As a female, I do not think it is a good idea for any young girl whether a local or a foreigner to go to unfamiliar places all by herself. But if you are with a decent tour, it is ok.

i have been to thailand 4 times alone myself, i think with you being a woman you need to be a little bit more careful. go online and see if you can join a group tour for thailand. always better to have other people along with you. good luck.

In my opinion it is generally safe. Just stick to places where there are a lot of people and be sensible about who to talk to and who to trust. People are generally very nice anywhere while there are always the few black sheep.

I like what Michigan Wife has to say. I could easily travel with her.
Even when traveling here in the USA you should always be conscientious of your surroundings.

the girlfriend of a friend of mine describe Thailand as a dangerous country for lone white people. Lot of attacks, even against men.
