I haven't heard that but a year or so back there was a can called double brew, extra brew, or something that caused lots of drinkers to get drunk and unruly very quickly, this was sometimes called family breaker but still not wifebeater, at the price there's probably not many married men can afford to drink enough to get them to the state of wife beating, cheap red wine is probably a better bet.

Yes it is...but Tennents Extra is the original wife beater, full of chemicals...we refused to have it in the pub, the brewery wasn't happy but it does have bad reputation.

I have never heard it referred to like that.
I know that my friends and I call the muscle vest that guys wear wife beaters.
