Look at the pineapple. It should be plump and fresh, and the leaves should be green. It should not have any visible bruises. (Image 1)
2. Smell the pineapple. It should have a sweet, pineapple smell at the stem end of the fruit. (Image 2)
3. Touch the pineapple. The shell should give slightly when you push on it, but there should be no large, soft spots that cave in under your touch. (Image 3)
4. To cut pineapple into chunks, twist off the crown, then slice the pineapple lengthwise into quarters. Cut away the shell from each quarter, then remove the core strip from the top. Slice into chunks.
The worst part, pineapples are a fruit that will not continue to ripen after picking, it just starts to go bad and mushy.

I ought to consider a mixture of the 1st 2 posters' solutions. mutually as coloration is a advantageous indicator, i've got got here across that scent and the leaf attempt artwork the proper. The sweetest pineapples i've got ever bough have consistently had a staggering, clean (no longer fermented) pineapple heady heady scent with a suited that actually twisted marvelous off with minimum attempt. Be cautious of pineapples that experience too spongy and provide off a fermented, very almost wine-like, aroma. they have have been putting around slightly too long on the cabinets. I consistently seem on the backside of the pineapple because of fact it rather is the place beneficial signs and indicators of age (which includes mildew) start to coach.

the easy ways of telling if a pineapple is ripe are:
1. if it has a sweet pine apply smell. or
2. if the green leaves come away easily if you pull them out. It is not anything like a melon though. if you are talking of sweet melons the smell test works for them too.

The colour is the guide as to a pineapple being ripe. Once it's a yellow colour all over then it's at it's best.
