Hello,

We've been homeschooling in Virginia for 13.5 years. Homeschooling is done at home, not at a school, so I'm wondering what is your exact question.

There are some folks who get together and hold classes for their 'homeschooled' kids. These are people who are basically re-creating the school-style of learning and just want to be away from the public schools. To go this way is to not get any of the benefits of homeschooling.

We unschool, which means we've filled our house with books (thousands!) and games which we read to and play with our kids. We got to museums, parks, concerts, plays. We talk talk talk about anything and everything that interests them. They are in theatre, tae kwon do, chess club, and regularly gather with friends at the park and at homes, including ours, where we host gatherings for homeschoolers.

The link to THE virginia homeschool organization can provide lots of info. Many people I know did the hard work to create this organization and it is wonderful. Also, yahoo groups has many Virginia homeschool groups. REACH is one that's excellent for field trips and other events, including big discounts. NOVAUnschoolers is great for gathering with intelligent, interesting homeschoolers. You should avoid HSLDA which just uses homeschoolers money to fund their right-wing political operations.

Good luck, have fun, it's an awesome and fun way of life!
