redhead chick, i say illegal mexicans b/c i dont want to be around gangs anymore. im looking for somewhere else to live and was thinking about alaska.

Patti is right. Anyone who said zero is wrong (and clearly doesn't live here).
While we have a LOT less illegal mexican immigrants than CA, TX, etc, we do have difficult, underpaid jobs in canneries, housekeeping, childcare, etc. So someone for whom a tough job for $200/week sounds better than life at home would be motivated to come and stay.
You can't walk across the border (unless you're Canadian) and you can't swim the 2,000 miles from Mexico, but one can overstay a tourist visa. And in years past, you didn't need to show much ID for a domestic plane flight or coming up on the state ferry.
How many? A wild guess: 500 or so. Plus a few thousand of other nationalities, Philipino likely being highest.
There is some gang activity in Anchorage (pop = 250,000 or so). Any of our smaller cities, however, have essentially no gangs in the way you think of them. Just local idiots who hang out together and do stupid/illegal things sometimes.

There is not a mexican problem in alaska that I notice esp not illigal ones. There are alot of Alaska natives. There are some african americans but the majority of Alaska is caucatian and Natives. If you want to get away from that kind of stuff Alaska is great I would not live in Anchorage but the outer parts like wasilla and Palmer are nice but those are growing fast. Just do some research and you might find the population you are looking for. Alaska is a VERY big state!

If you are worried about gangs, there are almost no "real" gangs in Alaska. There are a lot of punk kids that like to pretend they are in gangs, but no true (like in the lower 48) gangs.
There is violence in Anchorage, just like anywhere else, and the occasional shooting, prostitution, and drug dealings. There are parts of Anchorage that I'd rather not live in. Overall, though, it's an awesome city to live in. Very clean and modern.

There are many illegal immigrants living in Alaska. Some are Mexican. I don't know how many are here. I live in Anchorage, Alaska.
