Sectarianism is not just about religion. It's also about gangsterism. The various groups (IRA, Real IRA, UDA etc.) are all involved in corrupt dealings, robbery, extortion, and lots of other things that are criminal and sinful and hypocritical. But that's the reality of Northern Ireland. Those are primitive tribes, not honest politics.

Bear in mind that the educated, moneyed elite, Catholic and Protestant, and a few Jews, live together in harmony in expensive neighbourhoods.

I'm from northern Ireland I'm a catholic the protestants continue to fight over drugs in some cases and positions of power in others the paramilitary organisations that are protestant were originally set up for one reason-to get rid of the IRA the IRA were formed to force the british to declare the north free as the south was so as the IRA has disbanded the UDA UVF etc has no real reason to exist but they now have good lifestyles, lots of money, power and they still harbour ill feeling towards catholics i think the argument is over the wish of some members to continue the fight against former members of the IRA or to lay down their weapons

Another user "Andy" stated the opinion below

"Sectarianism is not just about religion. It's also about gangsterism. The various groups (IRA, Real IRA, UDA etc.) are all involved in corrupt dealings, robbery, extortion, and lots of other things that are criminal and sinful and hypocritical"

This statement of opinion could also describe the democratic parties in this country and our various groups (GOP, DNC, ACLU) as they are all involved in corrupt dealings, extortion and other criminal acts. It's an unfortunate part of democracy. People in power look to benefit themselves before they look to help their fellow man. I'm not saying all politician or political groups are corrupt to start but they are corruptible.

Getting back to the religious aspect of the question, why do catholic people in the United States kill catholic people? Why do muslims in the Middle East kill other muslims? It's not a religion that kills an individual but just a person who claims to be of a certain faith. Since the seperation of Northern Ireland and the Souther Ireland free state there has been turmoil between the two neighbors. Northern Ireland is home to many different political parties with different political views. One might say to themselves that in a civilized world people would debate political issues in forums and senates, not with bombs and bloodshed but the United States has not been without it's own violent polical movements in which catholics killed catholics, protestants killed protestants and athiests kill athiests. My point is that no one religion kills another it's an individual.

Cos the catholics have stopped fighting. Since when have Northern Ireland's protestants had any connection with the religion of the same name?

Protestants - Protest.. :)

Initially, the term protestant meant, "to be a witness" rather than, "to be against " as the current popular interpretation of the word seems to imply in the sense of one demonstrating against something. However, the Latin prefix pro is interpreted as "for"; the Latin adjective Protestants refers to a person who gives public testimony, or one who proves or demonstrates (thus giving the ambiguous circular sense of 'demonstrator' being confused with a 'protestor for' a thing). In the early years of the Reformation, the term Protestant applied to a group of princes and imperial cities who "protested" the decision by the 1529 Diet of Speyer to reverse course, and enforce the 1521 Edict of Worms. The 1521 edict forbade Lutheran teachings within the Holy Roman Empire. The 1526 session of the Diet had agreed to toleration of Lutheran teachings (on the basis of Cuius regio, eius religio) until a General Council could be held to settle the question. However, by 1529, the Roman Catholic authorities felt they had gathered enough power to end toleration without waiting for an official pronouncement from any council.

Stop labeling people..
She's a female - he's a male -
she's catholic that went Wicca, whose African American -
he's protestant that went christian, whose French Canadian..
etc etc etc..
begin looking at people as PEOPLE..
STOP LABELING! We all share the same earth, the same air, the same everything. Maybe we need to start thinking this way in order to survive..

Anyway, Good Morning! I just woke...

After the 'troubles' have fallen off lately the loyalist terrorist organisations have taken to in-fighting which is solely now based around gangster activities. I think it is unfair to blame Protestants as most are ordinary decent people who have been wrongly labelled as Catholics are wrongly labelled as republicans.

The Love of Christ is not in them.

The hate that is within them shows who they truly follow.

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
