There are plenty of countries the U.S. could not invade and defeat in a conventional war, Russia for example. However, there is no army in the world that could invade the U.S. and win.

Just to be a nitpicker. There is no such thing as conventional warfare. Warfare by it's very nature is unconventional. Every battle is changed by the last. In fact battles are even changed by ones that come later.
History is written by the winners.
Now assuming that you simply meant without the use of nuclear arms.
Well if the middle east, for example, wanted to destroy us. They would simply take the oil fields, keep selling to other countries, switch from the U.S. bill to the Euro or other such currency, effectively undermining the value of our dollar, destroying our economy.
Then they wouldn't even need to send much military might over here. Just threaten us in our time of weakness.
You all have this dire and blatant vulnerability thanks to the federal reserve bank. Just great.
In terms of pre nuclear war, no nukes and no home advantage. I think American soldiers only actual match would be china or Russia as mentioned.
Of course, war is no longer fought with guns and bombs. It's really fought with economics and knowledge.
That sure says something about us being in the middle east right now...But be assured, without it the value of our dollar and the world banks would of all taken a hefty blow.
Fight the federal reserve, get that appealed.

I think you're right, it is pretty hard for people to beat the U.S. Military, for many reasons. Instead of being 52 small countries, we are 50+2 states, which makes our land mass, a unitiy land mass. Above cananda is a sister country, who does not fight, or let other countries in, in fear of loosing their culture. and below is middle america, where the strongest force is Cuba, who would not let other countries occupy him. So America, could only be threatened by illegal immigrants, not a very strong force is it?
But if all of our military forces were to go to another country, say... Russia....and fight conventionally. Yes, i can see it being a very bloody battle, this is why we stay out of russia's way.
Take a quick look at russia on a map. Here i'll supply a link:
http://www.mapsofworld.com/map-of-the-world/map-of-the-world.jpg
not only can you fit 4 and a half, to 5 united states into Russia, You're bringing people that arent used to the artic cold that russia can bring in northern russia, and the population there, is well strong. Ever see russian women and men? They are Huge, they are tall, and they can be really mean :)
So yeah, we weould be lost, our military, in full force (leaving the us vunerable) would not be able to set up proper military borders, or anything, that would help cut off russian supplies. and other countries that dont really like us, would 80 percent chance help them.
so even if the us got into fist fights with Russia, we would loose, but remeber this is only if we go to russia. if russia came here, we would probably win.

To the individual who asked the question:
Vietnam? Cambodia? Laos? Were they not defeats on the operational and strategic levels? Even granted no American unit suffered an outstanding tactical defeat (thanks to artillery and airpower in the face of greater numbers), was this not defeat?
Korea? Was that not stalemate? It certainly wasn't victory in any sense of the word to be beaten off the Yalu to the 38th Parallel. If it wasn't a defeat, it certainly wasn't a victory. Incidentally, it is still ongoing.
Desert Storm and OIF/OEF may blind some people as to the power of American military might, but those who actually do the fighting know the score better. You can only progress so far on hubris and relying on the gross incompetence of the enemy. Success on the battlefield, in so many ways, is more destructive to the victor than a swift defeat.

True you are that in a conventional war no country can defeat
the U.S of A but remember Vietnam. These are the countries I think that if the U.S invaded they would either drive the Americans out and cripple half of ther military force before losing
or would just drive the Americans out and cripple their military
and hurt the economy.
Iran-very capable military a battle with them
would hurt the U.S so badly and kill the economy
because they posses oil and have a very capable Air
Force which can threaten American soil. They
may even be able to drive America out but
would not invade because most of their military
would be crippled. Verge of WMD!!
China-They make mostly everything the Americans
enjoy while on the couch hurting America very badly.
They will most definetly drive America out and
cripple a lot of the U.S military. They may even
invade but over all such a battle would cause
both countries to be defeated. And what do
the over confident Americans say. "We can just
nuke them". Well its not that easy because China
also has things up their sleeve.
India- They are often considered weak and useless
and a pathetic country but they have a military
that can scare the guts of an unsuspected enemy.
They have the 4th best ranked Airforce
and can deploy troops quickly. They did beat the
U.S 90% of the time in Airforce Wargames
so they are definetly good and the only thing
they probably have to worry about is the F22
Raptor but they can match it with the Su30MKI
which is very effective. In a Pakistan war in 1971
they moved quickly capturing 90,000 enemy
forces. They also posses 100 nukes and have a
new Israel built missile defense system and
can draft 200 million able bodied men in war!!
So invading India would also be like China but
India is a little weaker then China so the U.S
will have to pull out of India eventually but India
may not attack the U.S as much but nukes will
fall on both countries. China has a tiny capability
to finish of America but India does not all though
they will definetly destroy major cities in America
they just don't quite have the capability to finish
the U.S of.
Russia-China and Russia may be the only
countries able to completly finish the U.S.
They have more nukes then the U.S and
being a rough nation they will but as Americans
say "We can just nuke them" their territory
is to large for that. According to research
they have the firepower to take out the entire
American AirForce in 17-20 days. Indian military
being only a extension of Russia can damage
America badly but Russia can even finish America
of but as you said America is the worlds best so
their is a 95% chance they can oush America out
of their territory and a 50% chance they can invade
America completly.
Canada-Snowballs, Great Airforce and bordering
the U.S gives them the ability to sneak soldeirs in.
Economic threat.
Japan- Most of their military is U.S based but they
have an economic edge and a very technologic
military and unmanned Aircrafts so they
are equal to North Korea and push America out
and Americans think they can do Hiroshima again
but this time they have nukes from the past.
North korea-Same as Japan but their equipment
is bad and they can push America out or attack
American soil a few times.
British- Same as Japan bu small numbers is a
weakness but they can hold America back for a
few months.
Pakistan- Same as Iran. They have nukes
already but the U.S can take them down
with severe casualties. They are the best in the
middle east.
And there you have it. The U.S is the best but that does not
mean they can just wipe everyone out without a scratch lol.
There are countries that can prove a good fight. All
though I completly agree with you about America's military
might but they have their weakness. For some countries pure hatred for the U.S eggs them on. HOW IS THAT FROM
A 13 YEAR OLD LOL!!

I do not believe that we could invade all countries and win (ie China) but I also believe no one could invade America. I assume you are speaking of a ground war with no major nuclear attacks. The fact is we have one of the most dominant militaries in the history of the world and also many civilians with their own weapons.

May be the Chinese Red Army....and will be only because they can out-number US forces...On the other hand, the US Army have a GREAT advance in technology and their soldiers are truly brave. The Communist are also very dependant of their hierarchy to take a decision so a strike on a HQ would block any movements because the red aren't used to decide of their own.$ so...everyday, I would bet on the US Army.

As of the moment, no country could beat the US in a conventional war because it has the resources, training and superior firepower.

Probably no country can beat the US but many countries can withstand them one way or the other. Look at afghanistan and iraq. You still have people killing the military. The only country that i think can possibly force the US solely on withdrawing or at least inflict heavy losses on them (as in WW2 losses) is china.

I do not believe that any country has the resources or expertise that USA has to fight an all ou war. It does however seem that due to various political considerations the US tactics hampers the most effective use of these resources. (e.g. carpet bombing is not done).
I do not necessarily like the USA, but doubt if anyone can really beat them should they decide to kill all they find in their rifle/cannon sights.
