I went to the dealership today and found out they stopped shipping manual wrangler 06's. I looked around and found a silver (2nd choice) 06 wrangler sport automatic. the dealer offered 5k below msrp, which seems pretty sweet. but how do autos hold up in wranglers? i know manuals are the way to go (I have to leanr how to drive stick though haha) for wranglers and i dont like the new 07's so much. what shoud i do? thanks in advance. mike

Hi, I myself drive a 2005 manual, and that would be my first recommendation. However, in my offroad club here, there are a couple of guys, even marshals, who drive auto Wranglers. Its just a question of personal preference. If you know how to shift between the gears in automatic and bring out the most torque, you wont have any problem. If you've been driving manual all along, automatic is a little more boring!

If its just that this dealer doesn't have it, why don't you try another? Anyway, when buying a new car, I always feel it best to compare AT LEAST two separate dealers. You can negotiate a better deal/package for yourself that way.

With the smaller-engine 2007 Wrangler coming soon, I would recommend getting a 2006 manual ASAP, as the value of these would stay good for a long time.

All the best, and Keep Jeepin'

Hope this helps..

On a track, a manual is best. But for off-roading, especially at very low speeds, an automatic is the better choice. They are durable and provide a constant power to the wheels. With a manual off road, you'll eat clutches in the tight rocky areas.

There are some drivers out there that can use a manual extremely well. But for the vast majority of drivers, the automatic works best.

Sounds like a good deal for the automatic. Though, of coarse it depends on how you drive, were you drive, and if you plan on taking it off road. I personally like sticks...though not for city driving. And if you're just learning, you will burn thru your clutch faster. If you do a lot of highway driving, a manual is a breeze. For off road running, I would stick to an automatic. Easier to get over rocks and such if you keep a constant speed, and that's hard in a standard

The manual trans is the way to go it gets a lot better gas mileage than the auto for some reason besides if you plan on doing any serious 4 wheeling you would be better off with the manual.

Get a HUMMER H3 manual transmission; 2006's have 0% financing and $1,000 off right now. You could own a new HUMMER for the price of a new Jeep Wrangler. Plus, you get the same MPG as a Wrangler in an H3! What are you waiting for? Get to your local HUMMER dealer now!

Definitely go with the automatic. It is cheaper as far as maintenance goes,i.e. no clutches to replace, cables and fewer linkages to adjust etc.

an automatic off road vehicle?

forget it.

manuals get better millage, more torque, and the resale value is better too.
