If you are taking on the responsibility of adding to the dog population and presumably intending to find good, suitable homes for your puppies I would have thought that you should have already done some reading and research on dog breeding.

As you have not said what breed of dogs you have your question is difficult to answer.

Some breeds produce large litters and some small. The average litter is about five or six but you might have only one viable puppy or you could have a dozen (or more!).

People like you must be only the tip of the iceberg - how many other clueless people are out there breeding their dogs without any real thought about all the thousands of dogs that need homes or are on death row simply because they were born and then unwanted.

At least you have taken the trouble to ask advice from total strangers who may or may not have any idea what they are talking about. That's something but not much.

Don't come on here for opinions, get a proper breeding manual and ask your vet how to prepare now.
All your dogs need to be fully up to date with their vaccines, they all need to be de-flead and de-wormed by the vet. You need advice on feeding and exercise. You need to prepare for the delivery and learn how to midwife. You need to learn when to call the vet. You need to learn which pups are going to have to be put down, and why; learn about cleft palette, hair lip, pups born without an anus and hydrocephalus.
Figure out how you're going to deal with the large volume of waste the dogs will produce twice a day. How are oyu going to advertise and sell the pups, how much to charge if you're not a registered breeder...

ya' didn't mention what kind of dog it was! That's the biggest determining factor in how many puppies she will whelp. If she was a french bulldog you might expect only 1 or 2....If she's a boxer you could get 8.

And we are drained of answering those debates. in spite of the undeniable fact that -- i'll. i can see what you assert and keep in mind that you attempt to entice a line below what's ideal and what's not any longer. I also understand about some breeds being heavily bred and having issues, yet of each and every of the indexed kc recognized breeds, it is taking position to in hardship-free words some. in spite of the undeniable fact that I completely agree that some thing should be finished about that. For me then..... quite with my connections to rescue which finally end up taking on area of each day, then my criteria must be.......... they ought to go back from registered dogs because in hardship-free words then are you able to seem into the grandparents strains to ascertain for issues. they ought to go back from totally well being checked hip / elbow / eye / heart / temperament etc reckoning on the breed. they ought to go out with a freelance that stops the hot proprietor breeding with them till the breeder lifts those regulations so as that any ability faults aren't any further surpassed on and they ought to have contained in the settlement that the breeder takes them back at any time in spite of their age so as that the rehoming is done with the aid of the breeder and they consequently comprehend the position their dogs are for existence. they must have a breed mentor as understanding what to do for the welfare of b*tch and doggies is paramount to how those doggies finally end up, from nutrition to socialisation and the adventure of understanding the doggies natures/temperaments and which could be ideal with which new vendors. they might want to be good examples of the breed for the way ahead for the breed and likewise for well being causes. except that i could not supply a flying fig who breeds them in case you labored with rescue and noted the thousands that are positioned to sleep then you actually would not be so leniant with a tremendous variety of those wanna be breeders who think of their responsibility ends the minute the doggies discover "good" residences. Vitually no clutter of doggies ought to proceed to be with those "good" residences for the length of their lives for most causes. do you comprehend that even contained in the united kingdom our proper rescue places nevertheless euthanise about a million/3 rd of dogs to make way for the subsequent lot coming in. human beings go away their dogs in those places wondering that there'll continually be someone to go back alongside and residential it. Wrooooooonnnnngggggggggg. One third are pts. Very emotive problem.
