A CT myelogram is done to evaluate for any degree of spinal stenosis, nerve root impingement or disc problems. Contrast dye is injected into the spinal fluid space (under local anesthesia). Then a CAT scan of the spine is done which takes a few minutes. The other option is to use fluoscopy (similar to an xray) instead of the CAT scan.
