The bottom of my fridge all of my food is freezing. even though it is set on normal---why?

my fridge is 12 years old----but fridges are suppose to last for some time

Malfunctioning thermostat. Change it.

Hi! The cool setting is up too high ,,its the knob inside where the light is..or maybe its down at ground level and you or your pet has bumped against it.. ( but 12 years get a new one )

I think there is just an error with your particular thermostat.
