By experience, Hot Dip Galvanization is the recommended approach if steel will be exposed to harsh elements,
Drawback is for the small items, for Hot Dip you cannot use a bolt with shallow treads, Electroplated Bolts is commonly used indoor.
The best will be dependent on where you will use it, outdoors it shoud be Hot Dip, for indoor Electroplated

Superority is subjective and depends on the application. Hot dip has a thicker coating and would be better in an outdoor atmosphere, whereas electroplate would be satisfactory for indoor or controlled atmosphere use.

Neither, if one method or the other was best for all environments then the most economical method would replace the other method.
Different plating methods are required based on humidity, chemicals present, how long the bolt should last, abrasion, and as many other properties as you can conjure up.
The answer also depends on the size of the bolt you are considering, and what loads it must carry.
