Hi Guys
I started with earache 3 weeks ago which was only mild but after a week it became quite severe and I also developed a sore throat and red spots/dots at the top of my mouth near the back of my throat. I have taken a course of antibiotics (finished 2 days ago)but 3 weeks down the line I am still suffering with ear ache, muffled hearing, popping noise in my ear and throat pain (as well as the strange spots).
Do you think I need some more antibiotics or do you think this could be caused by a virus rather than bacteria? Is it normal to last this long and have you any advise on dealing with the ear pain. Anadin doesnt help with the pain anymore as its too severe!

thanks so much

I get recurrent ear infections. They are considered to be emergencies. DO NOT let this continue...go to your doctor immediately. Popping often indicates ear drum issues....the popping sound is your ear trying to equalise the pressure between your head and the outside world.
Untreated ear infections can lead to deafness or brain infections (in worst case scenario).

I am more concerned with the description you gave:

Muffled hearing and ear popping sounds like you may actually have fluid trapped in your ear. You want to consider going to an ENT (ears, nose, throat) specialist. When I did I found out I needed tubes in my ears. My hearing dramatically improved. I don't know what your situation is medically but I would recommend and ENT---they know their stuff.

I really think you should go back to the doctor especially if the pain is that bad in your ear. If you can't get an appointment goto an NHS walk in centre, these are actually quite good and you get seen quickly. However, I would do this today as ear pain can be a sympton to a number of different problems.

Hi
I think you need to go back to the doctor to get their opinion. Could be viral and it needs to run its course but, I think it isn't- you need to get different antibiotics because the first ones obviously didn't work! In the mean time, drink tea with honey and lemon and I don't know what to do about your pain.
Ear pain is awful so please just go to the doctor again there's no reason you should be suffering for so long.

I would suggest that you return to your doctor and inform them that you are still having problems. It may be that you have an ear condition that needs special care such as with an ear specialist.

Go back and see your doctor. The antibiotics you took may have not done the trick.

I do believe every one here is going to tell you to go to your doctors. It could be allergies.
