The bible teaches that the archangel Michael is the heavenly pre- and post-human Jesus.
Note that Jesus the Lord calls with an archangel's voice:
. (1 Thessalonians 4:14-16) Jesus died and rose again, so, too... the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel's voice
Note who leads angelic armies (Jesus is "Logos", "The Word"):
. (Revelation 19:13-14) the name he is called is The Word of God. Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him
. (Revelation 12:7) And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels battled
Who returns and stands up during a time of distress such as has never happened before?
. (Daniel 12:1) "And during that time Michael will stand up, the great prince who is standing in behalf of the sons of your people. And there will certainly occur a time of distress such as has not been made to occur since there came to be a nation until that time. And during that time your people will escape, every one who is found written down in the book.
. (Matthew 24:3-21) the disciples approached him [Jesus] privately, saying: "Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?" And in answer Jesus said to them: "...All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. ...But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. ...for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world's beginning until now, no, nor will occur again.
Once you study it, the bible really teaches that Jesus is Michael. The bible speaks of only one archangel, and who would be above Jesus among heavenly creatures?

At one time Lucifer was an archangel; but he rebelled along with 1/3 of the angels. He was cast down to earth where he goes about doing evil. He is now Satan; and those fallen angels are called demons. You Can read about Lucifer's fall in Isaiah 14:12-15 & Ezekiel 28:14-19.
Michael is now the only archangel mentioned in Scripture. As the archangel we might say he is the Prime minister of heaven. He has the highest rank in the angel order. The archangel Michael is mentioned in Jude 1:9, Revelation 12:7, amd my favorite: 1st Thessalonians 4:16-17. In this passge we see Michael announcing with a shout the return of the Lord Jesus Christ: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever" (1st Thessalonians 4:16-17).
Angels are powerful and fascinating. We should thank the Lord for them. Never forget though, that angels are created beings. They have limited power. And they are not to be prayed to or worshipped. Only God is the Creator. Only God is all-powerful. Only God is to be worshipped and prayed to.
God showed what awesome love He has for you when He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for you and me. "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). And God demonstrated His power when He raised Christ from the dead on the third day. Is your trust in Christ alone for your eternal life? If not, open your heart to Christ today. When you do, the Bible says that all the angels in Heaven will throw a big party! (see Luke 15:10).

He was the angle who sat on the right hand of God. The one most like god. This leads many to interpret from scripture that Jesus was actually Micheal in human form.
The original model for the idea on Michael came from Chaldean folklore and was picked up there and inserted into Jewish scripture. He was adapted to fit into the Jewish thought system about spiritual reality and was later accepted as a part of the christian thought form when the current bible was compiled by the roman state when it assimilated Christianity into its thought frame.
The idea of Michael is still quite malleable, and people read into his description what ever best fits into the particular thought frame they view the world from. He is one of the few catholic saints that was not actually human, if you discount the idea that he and Jesus are one and the same.
One can speculate and see the possibility that he is a hold over from a polytheistic belief system that was just considered to good to relinquish when monotheism was accepted. For this reason he was simply down graded to a lesser form of Deity. All in all a very interesting character that fills many needs, for many people in various belief systems. Be they Jewish, christian, or Muslim.

He is the leader of the warrior angels or the chief of the warrior. A very brave and skilled warrior. And Micheal is the angel who leads the warrior angels on the day of Armageddon. Armageddon is the event where the angels of God and the demons are going to fight in the sky. For now he fight our fight against the demons around us. Hope I helped you and God bless.
