First somebody name those 8 wives please. I can rember only Rukmini, Satyabhama and Jambavati.
And Satyabhama and Jambavati were married to him more as peace offering.
The other 16000 were actually never had a married life with Krishna exactlly. As far the mythology goes (Far I doubt that there were 16000 princes in the first place) , they were kidnapped princes . Krishna killed the evil king, Narakasur, in war and got them free. But those women have no where to go as there respective kingdoms had left them to their fate. Krishna accepted them as his wives and gave them an honourable status and shelter. So that it does not create another problem.
The background of Krishna's action was explained in the story of Kansa. His uncle Kansa was killed by Krishna only as he had turned evil. Kansa story goes that his mother was raped. She was innocent but many blamed her and she never could have normal life again. Kansa in general blamed his father
(that's why he threw him in Jail after he became king). And almost blamed everyone for not being sympathetic to his mother instead behaving as if it was somehow her fault.
Krishna when declared all the victims of Narakasur as his wives , he practically made it clear to everyboddy in his kingdom and around that those girls were worthy of respect. Thus saving them from disgrace.
Thats the whole story. Moral: A rape is not fault of the woman.
Note: There are difference of opinions in the Skand, Padm and Bhavish Puran, regarding the origin of Dipavali. Somewhere it is described, that this festival started being celebrated in joy, become King Prithu had successfully exploited the means for extracting crops and wealth from the earth. At other places it has been described that on this day, goddess Laxmi manifested herself while the ocean was being churned by the deities and the demon. Some are of the opinion that Lord Krishna has killed the demon Narakasura on the fourteenth day of the dark half of the lunar month, and liberated 16000 princesses kept under his captive. So the next day which was the last day of the dark half of a lunar month (Amavasya), people which was the last day of the dark half of a lunar month (Amavasya), people celebrated diwali to show their joy and happiness.
Krishna's character is unconventional and always acting with a vision , not on short term solutions.

Krishna has got 16008 wives is very much true.
The wives of krishna in their previous births were great Rishis and they asked a boon from the lord and the lord accorded their request and promised that in dwaparayuga he will be born as krishna and they will be his wives.

Yes. It is a great love story where he married 16008... or more wives and had a large number of lovers, but none have complained that he neglected them. He made each one feel like a queen, and he lavished love and happiness on each of his wives. Each of the wife had full satisfaction, from him, and if stories are to be believed, he was aware of the smallest wishes of each of his wife and they were materialized, at once. This is the magic of love, where Krishna gave and gave of love, and all his wives and lovers received abundance of love. At the end of the day, all are happy, the giver and the receiver. The wives also love him on equal terms, and some have even sacrificed for him.

IT IS ACTUALLY A JOKE THAT A PERSON CALLED KRISHNA HAD 16008 WIVES.SO MANY INTERPRETATIONS MIGHT BE GIVEN BY THE HINDU MYTHOLOGISTS WHICH WOULD ULTIMATELY LEAD YOU TO THE PRESENT DAY CULT LEADERS HAVING THE MULTIPLES OF THAT NUMBER IN TERMS OF EXPLOITATION OF THE LESSERKNOWN BY ALL MEANS.THE CONCEPT AND ROLE OF KRISHNA HAS BEEN SPOILED BY THE SOCALLED FOLLOWERS OF THAT CULT.WILLING TO ADD MORE,BUT IT IS A WASTE,SINCE THE RYTHAMIC TUNING OF THE GLOBE BY THE SOUND AND SOUL CAN NEVER BE UNDERSTOOD BY ANYBODY.

he had 8 wives......
and with the 16000 gopikas, the notion is that they are married to god.....
just like in christians ,nuns wear a ring....and will be known for all eternity as the spouse of God..........
in the same sense the gopikas are married to the lord krisna..
it doesnt mean he married all of them....in the literal sense..

Actually, 16008 is not the number of Krishna's wives. It is the number of his " GOPIKAS".
