Islamic radicals teach their people that the cause of their problems and poverty is Israel, America and the West. However, the truth is that their problems come from the oppresive regimes that run their countries. Muslims deserve lives of freedom where they can criticize their governments and express themselves freely both in the media and at the ballot box.

Yes they do. Well done. How you going to give it to them then? Surely not by proving them right and invading their country, killing the people and destroying any economic viability for at least ten years? Oh no, wait, too late. Just make sure it doesn't happen again.

Here is what I think you are saying. Kindly correct me if your logic or purpose is different than this:

You ask whether radical Islam holds back Muslim nations. Then you state that Islamic radicals teach their people that the cause of their problems is Israel, the US and the West. The real cause you say is oppressive regimes.

Voila, you've answered your question!

Next, you say that Muslims deserve civil rights such as a free press and free elections. This is a totally unfinished thought. Do you mean to say that more Muslim countries need regime change so that their people can have these freedoms? Or are you saying that radical islam should be quashed so that people will realize they need to remove their rulers?

I think this is your conclusion and the idea you are trying to convey: freedom will be promoted if radical Islam is removed from Muslim countries along with their autocratic rulers.

My conclusion: you are advocating a dangerous and foolish policy. My source: reality and very recent history.

You are obviously not seeing the big picture. There are two types of Muslim nations. Ones friendly to the US and the ones who are not.

The friendly ones are the ones run by oppressive regimes like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or Pakistan. These governments are propped up by US money and military aid. These dictators are the problem the people face, but it is the USA that is stopping them from being able to do anything about it.

The hostile regimes get sanctions put against them because they are not willing to let the USA dictate how their country should be run. They are kept down by US pressure. Countries like this include the Democratically elected government of Palistine, the democratically elected government of Iran, as well as Syria and Jordan.

Either way you look at it, the USA is the reason these people are oppresed.

Of course, and this is encouraged by the Muslim holy men who preach this hatred in order to keep their power.
