is there any free software you know that can convert text saved as images to real text?

i remember my friend has a scanner, which can directly edit scanned text. what i want is a free software that can do a relatively similar thing as that.

Hi!

If you want to convert text from images, then you may use Simple OCR. That's free! I've never tried it though, and it only works with a few languages (English, French and a few other).

I think adobe 7 can actually just save "text only".
