that is the problem
we in the west cannot understand something so perverted it would encourage the youth to take their own life.
Why would a holy man look for a weak willed youth and convince him or her to kill others who have done no wrong.

TO ansawer your question, these people find it the same blowing up a bus through a suicide bomber as bombing a bus from the air. Terrorism is a different thing to everyone. Im a lebanese christian so you cant say that i am an islamic extremist or something like that. I read this article in the Time magazine about how bush catagorized all terrrorists under one thing. It said that all the muslims who support movements and islamic parties but dont support Al qaida or some islamic terrorist group felt oppressed and knew allied themselves with al qaida just for their survival (such as Iraq). Also you have hamas which kept a short distance away from iran, syria and al qaida. Bush then categorized them all as terrorists and a threat to the world so decided to declare tem evil. (same in the case of hizballah). These two countries have neutralized their policies and stances to become more of political parties. Both these so called terrorists set up schools and hospitals. THey only kept their arms because of the same excuse israelis and pro israelis are using. We need to defend ourselves. Israel also occupies a piec of lebanese territories (the un declared it syrian but they said it was lebanese officially) which gives hizballah an excuse to bear arms. Hamas has a lot of their territories taen an settled in. Also another excuse is that israel is the only true democracy in the mioddle east. Hamas and hizballah were elected into parliament with international observers.

It is not difficult to understand. Read history and you will see that all through time one faction is fighting another faction. They all thought they were right. It is only the tools they use that have changed over time. People stoned each other to death at one time. People would line up in a field and slaughter each other. It is especially the young that are used by the leaders because it is much easier to get the young to believe they are doing a great thing even if it is blowing themselves to bits. I am quite sure you have ideas that you violently feel are the truth and you would defend those ideas. Some times it is easier to see the wrong when on the outside but not from within.

Sure. When the Nazis occupied much of Europe they characterized what the underground resistance fighters were doing as terrorism.
There is always a reason behind terrorism, even if it's just a fanatic's refusal to understand the principle of law.
This doesn't make terrorism right, or even acceptable, but if you were backed into a corner, and you couldn't make anyone understand that your rights were being violated, would you strike out?

No I can't. But there are many people supporting many different kinds of terrorism.

By terrorism I mean deliberately taking any violent action that results in the loss of innocent lives in order to enforce or entice some other party or nation to change their political system.

So many people from Al queda through to Hezbollah to the the elected officials of Hamas, to the elected officials of Israel to the elected officials in the UK and the US ALL commit or authorise the commision of terrorist acts.

One group may not deliberately target the innocent civillians, but they still deliberately take violent action knowing that innocent lives will be lost and often in greater numbers than are killed by the 'real terrorists'.

They should ALL stop.

The "logical" side of terrorism is to create a weak central power so that the other side could take over. Its basically the same concept as with guerilla warfare. If you cant face your enemy directly becouse theyre to strong, then you could try to weakening him with many small attacks on his military and or his people.

This doesnt say that terrorism is acceptable. It IS NOT acceptable. And I belive that all terrorists end up in hell or simular. No matter what their leader says about paradise and virgins and so on (in fact that seams to be a major fact behind why people accept to be suecide killer, they think the will end up in paradis, well they will NOT!). Who are you talking about? If you are in a war people do all sorts of horrible things. If you are fighting for a cause I can understand it. I don't condone it but I have never been in that situation. If you are on the side being terrorized it doesn't make any sense at all to support it.

Those who perpetrate such acts probably believe that the targeted countries are perpetrating similar acts on their people. For example, many muslims and arabs believe that the recent actions of Israel in Lebanon, which resulted in the deaths of scores of innocent people (many children), are acts of terrorism or genocide. Similarly, they believe that the acts of the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan, which have resulted directly or indirectly in the deaths of thousands (most innocent), are acts of terrorism also. Remember: many religious zealots of all faiths believe strongly in the doctrine of an eye for an eye.

I think they aren't thinking rationally at that point. They just think that by doing the "deed" they are doing it for "their higher power or their people".
Maybe their country limits their media from showing what other countries are all about. Maybe their authorities don't see the big picture that other countries though different, can be good. So rest of them only see with the facts they are given.

its like them against the world.

I can't.

As soon as you ask a fellow supporter, though, they dodge the question and bring up Israel's history of oppressing the Palestinians. They are quick to deflect criticism by pointing the finger at the other guy. You can only hope things will get better over time...
