pain, growing rapidly, 8 days only chances are that it is a benign mass...meaning it is not a Cancer...most likely a cyst or an imflammatory process....the neck has a bunch of potential spaces which may get filled time to time by fluids ad tissues of kinds....the pain is probably due its rapid growth if it is a cold swelling and is not read if on the other hand it is hot and red then the body has illicited an imflammatory reponse and there is a war going on between you some bad guys that have sneaked into those spaces either through direct infection like a dental problem or through a breach in the integrity of your mouth or through the blood stream through the vessels in your neck...so you will need to bring in the big guns...some good antibiotics....so go check out your doc and he'll write u some good ammo....so smile chances are that it might not be a cancer from the looks of things

my daughter had a tumour on her neck too about 4 months ago (she only 6) the doctors ffrightened the life out of me with the cancer bit and they immediatly admitted her for a biopsy under general aneasthetic. As it turned out it was a white blood cell infection. She had an appointment for post op but it was 2 months away from when she had her op!! by the time app came up the mysterious lump went down??? It was a very painful very large lump and gave her constant headaches and stiff neck.overall it was there about 3months. I think personally that i was caused by stress.(.i had moved her out of school with me and her brother 150 miles across the country to live.)
Try not to worry and get to the doctors and find out what it is.

Until the doctor has checked it out, there's no way of knowing whether it's a tumour. Also, tumours don't always hurt, that's why they call cancer the silent killer, 'cause it creeps up on you. Go and see a doctor asap.

There are several lymph nodes around neck. One of the same may have inflammed due to infection. Consult the doctor.

If it's painful then it's usually just a swollen gland. I had one for 3 weeks before it finally went away. If you're concerned, see your doctor.

It could be a boil, carbuncle, abcess, swollen gland, even your adam's apple! Go see a bloody doctor.... It probably isn't cancer, but if it was then you get to the hospital like your **** was on fire and get it seen to!
