I'm sitting here watching Geraldo At Large, they have a man on there that goes to Mexico every three weeks to take food & money. I just can't understand this because they say these people have nothing and can't do anything about it for they are poor!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for helping those in need but i can think of alot of homeless, abuse, and fire shelters here in Philadelphia alone that has the hardest time caring for helpless and poor people! Not to mention the foster children that needs homes, money and love. Use your time and money to help someone you know or someone in the U.S.

I'm completely with you on that one!

Go to Anytown USA and you'll find the needy. Think what all that money that went to Iraq could have done to resolve our OWN problems.

Dear friend I wish there was an easy answer to this intricate question. It is a question that baffles met too! I suppose it is personal choice that drives these people to donate funds. It could also be media coverage of their donations. Whatever the reasons are, Im sure the scene is not very bad. Oprah does contribute immensely to charity in the US.

It's a matter of overlooking what's right under their noses. America is a place of cable TV and mcDonald's, and it's easy to forget that not everyone has that. When attention is brought to something, it changes--look at Katrina. Even that, I understand, is not the same as what you're talking about, though--you're talking about basic day-to-day life for people. Maybe a little more attention in the right places?

I agree. We have our own homeless. We have our own hungry. We have our own health care problems. We have our own criminals. Until we solve our own problems let other countries take care of themselves. Why does everyone always want the U.S. to help when something happens halfway across the planet anyway? How many other countries are there that stand back and don't do anything??!!

I just wanted to say- Right On!! I say this all the time myself. We are all big about helping everyone else, yet we sure don't take care of our own at all. Other people knock the U.S., but when they need help, they always come to us!

We tend to focus on what our image appears to other countries. if we help them, we look better in their eyes.
