Thank you! Not many people are intelligent enough to believe reality instead of the media. I don't know why this is so hard for most westerners to understand. The west oppresses women with the illusion of freedom. For those that still don't believe it, open your eyes. I know I would feel very oppressed if I were to dress and act like a prostitute, as seems to be the trend in the west. And they call this freedom equality? Give me a break! Which goes back to what I was saying before: most people are not intelligent enough to believe in truth instead of the media. Western media encourages women to behave like whores, while at the same time spreading lies about Islam. Just look at the other posts here! They are all like little parrots, regurgitating whatever their media has fed them: that Islam opresses women and that the west give freedom and liberty and happiness to all! (and that women need to be physically attractive to be worth anything).
It's been another observation of mine that the non-muslims mis-quote the Qur'an to convince people that Islam is bad, or they take the worst possible example as their so-called understanding of Islam. But whenever someone mis-quotes the Bible they immediately jump to the defense! They are quick to condemn people like Hitler of not being a true Christian, but at the same time they are quick to label people like bid Laden as the typical Muslim.
The west is unfair to women and to Muslims!

Westerners see freedom and respect differently then you. Where you say Islam respects women, I'm sure you do in your own way. To us, it appears that you suppress them. For us, freedom means being able to choose your own way of life. We have the right to destroy our live if we want, by binge drinking, swearing, bad behaviour. Most do not. If we want to go out half naked, that is our choice. We can wear and do what ever we want, as long as it does not hurt anybody else. It is our choice what we do with our lives. That is why we do not like to be told what to do. Respect for us, is letting people do what they will with their lives. Letting your girlfriend/wife going out half naked is a sign of respect or equality for us in some ways, because it is nobody else's business what we wear. It is respecting there right to free will. We might not like what they wear, but that is our problum not theirs. They shouldn't have to change because I don't like something.
We just see thing differently, that's all. Respect to you is different to respect for us.
Most Muslims are not terrorists, like most westerners are not bad people.
We are just trying to find who we are. If people keep telling us who we are supposed to be or what we are supposed to be wearing, then we will never know our true potential.
Would you like it if we told you everything that you are doing wrong? Especialy if you don't agree with what we are doing. you would hate it! Well so do we. Being right or wrong is only perseption. What you persive as right, I my not agree. It dosn't mean you are right or wrong, it just meens that we are different. We can't all be the same, or the workd would be a very boring place.
Celebrate our differences!! I love that we are different!! That is how we learn!!
Respect is an attitude of acknowledging the feelings and interests of another party in a relationship, and of treating as consequential for the self the helping or harming of the other.
Respect is sometimes loosely used as a synonym for politeness or manners, though these are behaviours, whereas respect is an attitude. Intercultural differences in behaviours, self-perception and outward appearance may result in the unintentional appearance of disrespect.
Many movements have at different times claimed respect as the core element.
Live and let live.
Be who you are, and not who your supposed to be!!

The point is to do the right things because you think this is correct, not because you are obliged. As long as you don't harm anyone, it is your problem how you choose to live. As for respect for women, in most muslim countries women are victims of abuse and family violence, even of law injustice and unequal treatment.
To answer your question in the first place, we don't want to know. There are many things I would like to know, Islam is not top on my priorities. I have a very fulfilling religion, I live in a democratic state with a long history of civilisation (Greece), I am respected and respectful of others, I don't hate Islam and I appreciate arabic culture, but why would I need islam to tell me what rules I should have?

I guess then you didn't watch the documentary about the 16 year old Iraninan girl who was hung in the town square because she liked hang about with friends and do all the fun things that teenagers from all around the world whatever their religion. It is really respectful for this girl to be abused by a local taxi driver old enough to be her grandfather "but it wasn't his fault". From the undercover footage and interviews with Iranian women if you are raped then the women is punished sometimes by public execution or stonning and the man is not. This was not an isolated case.

Westerners will criticize muslims till the end of time because of social stigmas. We are all brought up to believe we are tolerant... when in fact it is a hypocrisy set forth by instituitions that make us believe that one way is the write way. Society is not interpretive, it is the cokebottle lens of "democracy" which is just as evil to other nations as communism was to us a few centuries ago. Because westerners believe they are tolerant, they become self riteous and cannot fathom any system that wouldn't want to be part of them. Its natural neutrality, since if a majority opposed, it would go against 300 years of bullshit created by a papist, left-wing wannabe religious west that preaches "freedom of speech"

I'm not muslim. I don't object to being educated about other religions, I quite enjoy it. I DO object when I'm preached at, told I'm a sinner because I follow a different holy book, and pressured to convert or go to their version of hell. That goes for any religion, not just Islam. So far I have not met many people who will preach at me instead of educate me, and I meet many different people.

On the other hand there is apparently more rape and oppression and sexual molestation of women in Islamic countries than in the West, so for all the supposed high principles of Islam, the result is actually detrimental.

Because they are rapidly losing our patience and respect. Another Terrorist plot in London. Why should we listen if we feel we can't trust them....The distance between us will only get bigger & Quite frankly we are afraid and they have their extremists to blame!
P.s They don't all respect women, my friend has secretly lived with a muslim for 4 years, his wife who lives with his mum has no idea.
