Boy! With all you hear about terrorists and what is going on in today's world, it's gotta be really hard to trust someone, even if all their stuff checks, and if you get good results. Definately check references, if he or she has rented a home in the U.S. before, do a search through zaba search, everything comes up, besides the regular credit check, background check and checking validity of documents as well as how long this person has been in the country, and the main reasons of stay, as well as how long. And, last but not least, if the person has no references locally, ask for 3 to 5 references back in their country, with valid phone numbers as well as their current address in that country, such as parents home address and phone numbers. That's if you feel uncomfortable or if such person might make you feel uneasy, but then again why would you rent to someone like that. If you know about psychology, you'd know a lot of things by speaking to the person, looking at the eyes and body language, a lot can be determined from it, if you know how to read someone deceitful, (just thought I mentioned it)

Or just don't.

In Ohio, if you are only renting 1 or 2 places and are not in the rental business with a large complex or anything, you're legally allowed to rent to whomever you want on the basis of whatever qualifications you want.

Don't like their face, look low income, dresses like a gang member, speaks a strange foreign language you don't know and scares you - tell 'em all to hit the curb.

Your risk in renting only 1 or 2 places is proportionally much more than the risk incurred by one of the larger complexes who may rent 40+ units at a time. So feel free to be as non-PC as you want to be.

Course, it will still be your loss if your perfect looking tenant burns down your place.

Do a background check. It is allowed by law and you owe it to yourself.

Only discrimination against people from other religions and other countries is not allowed.
