You have access to the switch that could shift the train onto a different track. The thing is, there is 1 person on that track. An innocent bystander. Would you take it into your own hands and save the 5, killing the one bystander who was not meant to die. Or would you let fate be fate, and take away the 5. Why? Think wisely before you answer please.

you guys seem to be very sure of yourselves. okay, so most of you guys choose saving the 5. now think about this. the 5 are all random people you do not know. but the one. the one person is someone you love and care about. still save the 5? do not think too much of the scenario, think about the decision you're making. and you cannot tell anything to the people on the track.

Well no matter what happens it will still be fate. the one person may be an innocent bystander, but if he is on the tracks there must be a reason. therefor whatever you do, and whoever you kill, it will still go as planned by who ever you may belive in religiously. if you watched final destination... heh.

I would keep going straight...and let fate take its course. Yes it is unfortunate that five people will die...while that one person will live...but think about it...that one person was doing nothing wrong...the five were knowingly standing on the railroad track while a train is coming...and anyway they have the option to jump out of the way right? That one person is not doing anything wrong and regardless of whether it is a love one or not...the logical decision would be to keep going straight and try as hard as possible to get those five people to move by blowing the horn and putting the brakes on as hard and fast as possible....

Anyone standing on a train track is pure stupid, especially if they're not watching out for approaching trains. So none of the 6 should be standing on the tracks.

I'd switch the train onto the track that has less people on it while yelling as loud as I could "GET OFF THE TRACK!" If they can't get off the track fast enough, at least only one person gets killed instead of five. It makes sense to me to try to save as many lives as possible.

I remember hearing something like this at school. A youth pastor had come to talk about christianity. He paralleled this story with the choice God made to sacrifice his son to save the world. The story he told was this....

A railway worker was committed to his job. His work was simple... he pulled the lever that changed the positioning of the railway track to send trains in the correct direction of their destination. However, the track went through rugged bushland and the lever was situated in a booth that was almost inaccessible during floods and rockslides. The railway worker was so committed to his job that he built his home nearby so he could always reach the booth every day to alter the lever. Every day for many years he would make the brief walk from his home early in the morning to his isolated booth alongside the railway track. He took his job seriously, knowing that he was the one who made sure that the people on the trains reached their correct destination. This railway worker also had a young son, whom he loved with all his heart. His wife had died giving birth, and now his son was the one thing he treasured above all else.

The passengers on the train never gave the railroad worker much thought. They took it for granted that their train was always on the right path. They never understood this man's dedication to them. One day the man arrived at his booth after a bad storm to find a rock slide had occurred, completely blocking the main line. He knew that the speed the train travelled through this part of the bush meant the collision would be of such magnitude that all the people would certainly die! He couldn't notify anyone because all communication lines were down after the storm. His only choice was the pull the lever and change the train's course onto the other track, by-passing the damage. He only had a moment to do this as the train was rounding the bend and was just about to reach the place where the three tracks met. Just as he was about to pull the lever, he heard a small voice call out "Papa!" He looked up and saw that his young son had followed him, and was walking along the track he was about to divert the train on to. The magnitude of his choice hit him - he could save his son and send many people to die horribly in the train wreck, or he could sacrifice his son to save their lives.

He sacrificed his son at great cost to himself, so that others could live. And they, unaware of the price that had just been paid, continued on their journey. Some found out at a later date, and marvelled at this man's love for them (for it was indeed the greatest example of love). Others never heard, never believed, or simply thought he was a fool.

call the conductor to get him to stop the train if you have access to hit the switch, then you would have access to contact the person directing the train to save all 6.. but what the hell are they on the track for? and why is the one you love or care for there and not beside you, are you the one that is solo?

Well I'm not a railroad employee so I have no way to unlock the switch. So I'd end up watching five people kiss their asses goodbye. Even if the switch was switched the speeding train would most likely derail and take out all six people plus whoever is on the train instead. Maybe I'd end up getting killed myself. To save myself from lawsuits and to avoid being prosecuted for murder I'd just turn my back to avoid a memory that would live with me for the rest of my life.

I would wait till the first car of the train to pass the track split, then throw the switch causing the train to crash and saving all 6 people's lives.

Ohhh... and you never mentioned who was on the train, so I'm guessing it's automated with no human operator. :-D
