if not, should we impose a tax to deter many people sending the money back home instead of into our economy?

Sending money is not taxable because there is no income derived in the transaction. The service fee of the courier service is the one that is taxable.

As far as I know, there's no tax, but there are usually bank transfer fees. And there are import tarriffs on some products you might buy from overseas.

We live in a free country in a global economy. People should be allowed to do whatever they want with their money.

If I want to send my money overseas to buy wine from Italy or drugs from Canada, why shouldn't I?

Besides, a lot of the money being sent overseas is salaries from U.S. companies who have outsourced their employee base!

No tax,but the amount is monitored by the company or bank sending it. They in turn inform the Internal Revenue Service and the FBI.
