The word "God" is a series of characters representing the idea of a supernatural being. The series of characters "G-d" are also representing the same idea...
What's up with people?

Lol... I had trouble finding the religion section to catagorize this in... wouldn't it be ironic if it was a subgroup of politics and givernment?

I think they are scared if they say his name, he might really exisit.

Or else they watch too much wheel of fortune and think they need to buy vowels.

The Jewish name of God was prohibited from being pronounced by anyone except the high priest and then only once a year within the Holy of Holies. The name was known as the tetragramaton because it was a name made up of three letters - the second letter being repeated twice. The word can be written as YHVH but this is incomprehensible without vowels. The Jewish people often substituted this word with Adonai to prevent profaning the holy name of God. There is much historical research into the name and many traditions to go along with it. Many people use G-d to give reverence to the idea that we might make light of God's name.

I didn't knew that people were pronouncing only g-d and not GOD.
well that matter is between them and God, i'm here to tell what the word GOD means:
the word GOD means:-
1.G___ FOR GENERATOR OF THE UNIVERSE
2.O___ FOR ORGANIZER OF THE UNIVERSE AND COSMOS.
3.D___ FOR DESTROYER OF EVERYTHING.

All Holy Books tell us, that everything will be perished and nothing will be left but The One, Alone God to resurrect all whom God created for the judgement. All the messengers sent to mankind by the Great, AlMighty God__ died but the true religion of the God lives. So, to be the one nation of God:
BELIEVE IN ONE ALONE GOD___ PERFORM GOOD DEEDS___ BELIEVE IN THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT AFTER RESURRECTION.

God says do not take his name in vain. So no saying "Oh my God" or stuff like that. That is why people may have a problem with saying His name

It's a respect thing that Jewish people do....It doesn't make any sense to me since "God" isn't even the original name used for god.

I think it's only the Jewish who do that. They are forbidden to speak the Name of God. So they put the dash in place of the 'o'...

I think people are afraid of the word God, the reason why they say G-d. i think they are afraid cause they are sinned badly and afraid of the punishment of the afterlife. Imagine how they say G-d irl. G hypen D for God perhaps.

I think they believe that it is not good to completely utter that word. Maybe too sacred to mention at all?
