In the begining when everything was all new and unblemished we were not meat eaters, but when Adam & Eve sinned God needed to sacrifice, an animal because they "Were naked", this sacrifice was for 1. clothes, 2. was the very first blood sacrifice. The bible doen't say but they may have eaten the meat.

The One True God made the animals for various good reasons: for the diverse beauty of this life, for the ecological balance, for mutual service...Man's teeth are not suitable for eating meat, but in case of food scarcity, man can take other things besides vegetables (rather than man's flesh!). But man should treat animals kindly, because they have no power of utterance to make complain.

and why are they so good with mashed potatoes and gravy??? We eat meat because it is needed for our nourishment and gratifying style. If someone would not like it they don't seem to be compelled to eat it and could no longer rigidity others no longer to... 1Co 6:12 All issues are lawful unto me, yet all issues aren't any further expedient: all issues are lawful for me, yet i can't be presented below the flexibility of any. 1Co 6:13 Meats for the tummy, and the tummy for meats: yet God shall spoil both it and them. Now the body isn't for fornication, yet for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. 1Co 10:25 by any ability is offered contained in the beef marketplace, that eat, asking absolute self assurance for experience of proper and incorrect sake: 1Co 10:26 For the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.

(The jewish tradition states that)
Even in the Garden of Eden it is said that the angels cooked steaks fot adam and eve in hevean. And it is also possible that they were able to eat animals who died of natural causes. After God gave noah the right to KILL animals for food.

Unfortunatly I was disapointed when I learned that, because I thought before that a vegan diet is an ideal diet. (Granted I always ate meat).

In the words of denis leary...

We only want to save the cute animals.

Don't eat the tuna fish... what? Don't eat the tuna fish... why? because dolphins get stuck in the nets. Well what about the tuna fish? Well f them they taste good alright.

What are you? I'm an otter. And what do you do? I swim around on my back and do cute little human things with my hands.

"You're free to go."

What are you? I'm a cow. Get on the truck. But i'm an animal, I have rights. You're not an animal, you're a baseball glove. Get on the f'in truck.

In the Genesis story of creation to which you refer, G*d made everyone - including the animals - as a vegetarian. After the fall came death and with it, meat eating.

We may never know G*d's purpose.

You don't need to turn your body into a graveyard for my friends to have a full life.

Some animals can be eaten, while others can't; because they help regulating life on earth, and god does not hate cats.

Actually, they were here first. Man was created and had the job of naming them. They were more like pets, and they were vegetarean too.
There was no killing of any kind, until after Abel's murder. Even after that, they still stayed vegetarean until some time after Noah got off the ark.
