Your outstandingly vague question will be the spark! I feel like revolting right now because of your insight!
LOL...ok sorry..just felt like being a smart @$$.
Now my real answer. I think we are seeing the spark right now. But as you know from reading history these "sparks" actually have long drawn out periods that lead up to the spark. The introduction of the Muslim fascist during the last 30 years who want to control the world and your thoughts will eventually lead to one of two things.
1) The fascist win and we move into a dark age of sorts. All thought outside the New Islamo-fascist status quo is met harshly. That will last for a few hundred years before the next spark which brings about another revolution of freedom.
2) The fascist are beaten back and another community of people (ie Muslim) are accepted into the world community. They contribute greatly since most really are decent hardworking people like the rest of us. We all gain insights into the human condition from their culture, beliefs and ingenuity.
Either that or I'm completely wrong...it's been known to happen :)

The spark already happened: It was the big collective sigh of relief everybody felt in the world after nothing happened on Y2K. That was the day that Humanity as an entity was born into the universe. Humans are cells in the body, our Internet and cell phones the neurons in the brain. The revolution is organic and it's happening at it's own pace. It's easy to miss the spark since we're still at the very beginning of the revolution.

This is a really clever question!
I'm definitely in agreement with the finding life outside of Earth. That would do it.
Maybe global warming will do something so blatent that everyone will believe climate change is an issue . . . like sea levels raising a dozen feet or snow in Panama. Something where people cannot deny the scientific proof is being validated.

Apart from the second coming of Christ? that would be the awareness that a second person exists and that second person has needs identical to ours. not so much morality as realisation of a second person-and of course that entails his needs- followed by empathy for that second person.
