My rottie is only a year old, and it seems quite sudden that this lump has appeared on his elbow. He isnt in any discomfort but although i will take him to the vets i would just like a little advice as i am worried. Its bigger than a golf ball, squidgy with hard bit in center. ive heard of lipomas but am not sure

Definately see a vet, but it sounds like a Hygroma. Large breed dogs can get these large, squishy lumps. They usually form when their bony elbows are on hard surfaces frequently, like lying on cement or tile floors. Its kind of like the body making a pillow for itself. They are usually not a problem and resolve on their own if the dog is made to lie on soft surfaces (like a padded bed) instead of hard surfaces. They do sometimes get infected, or do not resolve on their own and get larger, and require surgery.
Hope this helps.

my dog has one on his back. its rock hard and the vet took a needle sample from it and told us it was a cyst, not cancerous. he is now 1 year old and they have told us not to worry about it but are going to keep an eye on it all the same. a freind of ours had the same thing on her dog and had it removed, the dogs now fine. don't be worried, the sooner you take him to a vet the sooner you will know what it is and if/how to deal with it. good luck!
