If he's like a brother to you, why not offer to pay for some of the wedding expenses. I know that couples always appreciate it when someone offers to buy the wine or drinks or something similar. Don't offer to buy anything else, like flowers. Think of something small that they'll appreciate. Like a cushion for the wedding rings. This is something they'll cherish for years to come. Or what about offering to pay for the invitations?
I always say the smaller the better as long as it is something they'll remember.

Hello there! I live in South Africa too!!
Well how about taking your neighbor on a really cool bachelors party?? Take him somewhere with his other friends to a place he really loves and wont forget! You can celebrate on his marriage as well as congratulate him.
Make sure he doesn't get out of hand though....NO STRIPPERS! LOL
Kim.

The best gift I received for my wedding:
While my new husband and I were away, my sister and her partner cleaned our apartment to a high shine, then filled it with romantic touches.
They covered all the tables with white satin fabric, rose petals, and candles. Bubble bath, white bathrobes, and white towels in the bathroom. Massage oils and white satin sheets in the bedroom. Champagne, champagne glasses, and a fruit basket in the kitchen.
When we returned from our honeymoon, dazed and exhausted, their gift helped us remember that the real romance was just beginning.

I think that the best gift a friend can give another friend is help with the wedding. It does not have to be financial help but you can help her plan her bridal party or you can be there to help set up vendors. If you have any special talents that would be of any use to them, I think that you should volunteer your services. I am sure they will be greatly appreciated.
