I would have to say toyota matrix. ANd here are just a few reasons why,.
1. The Matrix looks better.
2. Toyota last a long time.
3.The matrix has 126 h.p. as opposed to the xB's 103
4. The fuel economy is 28 city 34 mw and although the xB fuel economy is 30/34 the matrix has a 13 gallon gas tank as opposed the xB's 11.

First of all, Scion is made by Toyota. So both are very reliable and have high resale values.
But I'd go with the Scion xB. I think it's cooler looking, cheaper and you can customize it.

For looks--the Matrix. The xB is a shoebox on wheels.
The Matrix is a little more expensive, but has more cargo space, more horsepower, and is slightly less fuel efficient.
I haven't driven either one of them so couldn't tell ya which one drives better.
