An american dollar is worth $1.1274 according to the latest exchange rates, one minute ago. You won't get exchange rates in most businesses you'll have to go to a bank to do that and with the fee that the bank charges the american $ is probably worth one Canadian $ or maybe a couple cents more. I know that some national chains like Sears, Safeway and other big retailers do exchange at the till. Bars, restaurants, clubs, taxis, etc. do not exchange american money to Canadian money.

1 American dollar is worth about 1.10 Canadian Dollars. A lot of places only take American at par. In other words, if you don't get your American dollars changed for Canadian Dollars when you travel here, most places will only place a value of 1 Dollar on your American dollar. Our dollar is actually very strong considering our country only has 1/10th the population of yours.

Check the current exchange rate at www.xe.com/ucc

The best way to get a good rate is to use an ATM to get cash. Use one at a bank, though - the generic ones in the airports don't use that many systems and I wasn't able to get any money from my US bank account at Toronto Pearson airport.

The difference between American Money and Canadian Money is like American Beer compared to Canadian. Canadian Beer is better higher in alcohol and we can mas produce it anytime we like to boost our economy. Hmm... Kinda like George Bush does with American money when he needs more for his wars and his bologna sandwiches. Get it... Or maybe I just had one too many. Canadian beers I hate Bologna.

The exchange rate is constantly changing so the best idea is to check this site frequently: http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic
