Boston Terriers are excellent house dogs and wonderful family dogs! Great choice, if I do say so myself... ;)
They are very intelligent little dogs and need to have a *lot* of play-time and mental stimulus. They need a *lot* of love and affection from you, too. If you can give them that much, they will be the most loving, loyal, attentive little dogs you've ever met! They make terrible guard dogs, as they love everyone they meet. For this reason, a Boston can *never* be allowed to run loose outdoors. They will run directly in front of traffic if there is someone walking across the street, or jump right into a stranger's car to say hello.
They can have a bit of a stubborn streak left over from the Bulldog that they came from so long ago, but this only adds to their charm, as far as I'm concerned. Other than that, a good Boston Terrier can be taught to do almost anything. One of mine does headstands! As a breed, they are wonderful with children. My grandpa got our family's first Bossie back in the 1940's, and every child in my family has been raised with them since, including my own three children. Not one of them has ever bitten a child. (However, the children are *always* taught to respect them right from the start...)
On the health side... Bostons can *never* be left outdoors. They cannot handle heat nor cold temperatures. They MUST be house-dogs. Please choose a breeder carefully... A Boston should *never* be aggressive! Playful, yes... but *never* snippy or short-tempered. Meet the parents! The parents should be screened for eye problems, such as juvenile cataracts. They should also be screened for hearing problems. Another common problem to watch out for is luxating patella.
I suggest going with a Bossie that will be over 15 pounds when fully grown, but not over 25 pounds. The larger Bossies tend to have fewer health and breathing problems.
I could go on forever, so I'll just go grab you a couple of links for more information... ;) Back in a minute!
Edit: Here's the Boston Terrier Club of America:
http://www.bostonterrierclubofamerica.org/
And the AKC Breed Standard:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/boston_terrier/index.cfm
On the left side of that page, you will see the heading "Breed Contacts"... There, you can find breeder referrals, rescues, and classifieds.
Best of luck to you!

Boston Terriers are very cute. They are very gentle and a good dog for a family with kids.
They are also really good with other pets.
They're very cheerful, intelligent, very friendly and lively. They can be easily cared for and they are part of the non-sporting group. The clean-cut short backed body of the Boston Terrier coupled with the unique characteristics of his square head and jaw, and his striking markings have resulted in a most dapper and charming American original: The Boston Terrier.

We have had our BT for about four years. She trained well, is very smart. She knows many tricks; speak, tell a story, beg, dance, dead dog, play army and many more. You really cant go wrong...check out the seller though. Don't buy from a puppy mill. You may get a dog that doesn't receive the same family time as one that is breed because they love the breed. In those places, they love the money.

They are perfect house dogs..they are such clowns and stay really cute all their lives..they love the whole family, and love to learn tricks and show off. However, they do have some health issues, so the Bostie needs to come from a good breeder, with a good health guarantee, but NEVER a pet shop..
Don't feed him dog food with corn or soy in it..corn will cause a rash, and soy will make stinky farts.... Mine used to run all my company out of the house, before i learned that!

Dog breed book says they're outgoing and friendly and known as the "American Gentleman" (dressed in tux!) They learn manners quickly. Are excellent with children, elderly and invalids. Like laps and loving. Good at agility and obedience. Sounds like a great choice for you!
