There are some people who believe there was a woman pope who reigned from 855-858 named Pope Joan. However, there's little to no evidence of this. Most likely it never happened.

Ther is only speculation that one of the popes was a female in diguise. one answer says pope joan. but if she was maquraiding as a male she would have used amasuine name instead mabey Pope John or an closer equivelent to joan.

NO.

There has always been that scuttlebut about one, but no, there has never been a validly ordained Priest and subsequently a Pope in the Roman Catholic Church.

dont u know the church used to call women sinners since the begining.

they said that woman were the reason for the FALL OF MANKIND, as eve was the 1st to be tempted by the devil.

that is why women llike eve, sarah, mary, esther and naomi, miriam (sister of aaron) and mary magdalene are less cited in bible.

they are cited but ull see them mentioned not as much as mark, matthew or judas himself.

the church condemned women to give sermons then. now dont try proving me wrong. u all know it deep down inside, dont u?

never. catholic church only ordains male clergy, and seeing that the pope is the head of the clergy...he's got to be a man, no other way around it! :)

No. And, unless the Church changes its rules quite drastically, there never will be.
