My fiance and I want to have part of the ceremony where we have a unity ritual with my son. We want to do something a bit more original. Any thoughts?? Thanks much for your help! :)

well... my family is doing a butterfly release. usually its a releasing ceremony to say we're finally married but what wea re doing with the family is giving them a butterfly each in a closed box of course and have a speech prepared to unite the family ... and when prayers and speeches are finshed every family member is releasing their own butterfly. i think this is cool and those gold andblack butterflies are usually safe in a box because they like confined spaces. the breeders say that its safe for the butterflies anyway. hope this helps.

It wasn't exactly for unity, but at my wedding we had the vows done in calligraphy and signed them during the ceremony while music played. At my wedding only myself, my husband, the maid of honor, and the best man signed it. But you could have different family members sign it if it will be to unite the families. The idea is to frame the vows in our house which hasn't happened yet, but when it does I imagine it'll look nice.

just returned from a wedding that was absolutely heartwarming....new stepmom FIRST had a "ceremony" with 8 yr old new daughter where she shared her feelings of love and commitment for the young girl. then gifted her with a ring of diamonds and her birthstones. not a dry eye or hard heart left in the room after that! looking at ALL THREE wedding rings was the highlight of the reception, too!

the wedding then proceeded with bride and groom exchanging vows and the minister presenting the newly formed family as they all three left the chapel.

Absolutely beautiful

have your son walk you down the aisle
after the exchange of vows...have son return and stand with you as you turn to face the guests...have you introduced as the ____ family...have fiance give him a gift of some kind and that is a little harder to choose for boys but go to a jewelry store and ask for suggestions

You don't mention your son's age.
There are family medallions.
Give him a "family" ring
He could present you to the man you are marrying.
You could also have your son exchange vows, as he is now a part of this new family that has been created by your decison.

how about you and your husband and son do a dance together to let them be little

Artist/Band: Dean Billy
Lyrics for Song: Let Them Be Little
Lyrics for Album: Let Them Be Little
I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand.
You felt so good in it; no bigger than a minute.
How it amazes me you're changin' with every blink.
Faster than a flower blooms, they grow up all too soon.

So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give 'em hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

I never felt so much in one little tender touch.
I live for those kisses, your prayers an' your wishes.
An' now you're teachin' me how only a child can see.
Tonight, while we're on our knees, all I ask is:

Please, let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

The so innocent, precious soul:
You turn around, an' it's time to let them go.

So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give 'em praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let them sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

Let them be little.

u could do it w/roses instead of candles. u could either both bring a rose each and place 'em together into a vase, or u could pluck off petals frm each and place 'em into a vase.
