Why is it so terrible to believe that Jesus may have been married? The Bible talks about marriage and family, yet the Catholic Religion is the only religion that doesn't allow it's priests to marry or have families. Isn't that hypocritical in itself? God WANTED man to be happy and have marriage and family. Why are priests denied what God wanted for all humans? And why couldn't Jesus have those same needs and wants on Earth? It's not a sin to love and marry. I don't get it!

Because, they take it seriously as if it has actually happened. They do not know the difference between fiction and fact - well I wouldn't blame them, if they new the difference between fiction and fact, they would not believe in the bible ya ??

This idea of a celibate clergy came from the Jews, John the Baptist, Jesus, and the Apostle Paul.

The Jews. The Talmud argues that a person whose “soul is bound up with the Torah and is constantly occupied with it” may remain celibate (Maimonides, Laws of Marriage 15.3). For example, Yahweh ordered the prophet Jeremiah not to marry (Jeremiah 16:1-4). Moreover, the Essenes was a group that was active in Jesus’ time that practiced celibacy and thought by most scholars to be the authors of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

John the Baptist and Jesus are both believed to have been celibate for their entire lives. Some scholars believe that the example of the Essenes influenced either or both Jesus and John the Baptist in their celibacy.

The Apostle Paul is explicit about his celibacy (see 1 Cor. 7). There is also evidence in the gospel of Matthew for the practice of celibacy among at least some early Christians, in the famous passage about becoming “eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:12).

The concept took many twists and turns over the years and will probably take a few more before Christ returns in glory.

With love in Christ.

I am not Catholic, so I may be talking out of my rear end. My impression is that "The DaVinci Code" theorizes that Jesus Christ was an ordinary man with worldly desires-a great leader, but otherwise just an ordinary man. For political reasons scriptures written about Jesus as an ordinary man were not included in what became the bible, and stories of him being divine/supernatural were "picked and chose" to manipulate people. The Catholic Church believes that Dan Brown manipulated and made up facts to fit this theory in such a way that to an average joe, it becomes believable.

Because it is a thinly disguised pack of lies, intended to obscure and subvert the constant and true teachings and beliefs of the church.

There is absolutely no historical truth, no evidence whatsoever, for any of the things Dan Brown includes in his book.

Jesus came to save mankind, not to screw around.

Jesus is already "engaged" to his church, for which he will return at the end of the age. The "marriage supper" has already been scheduled.

Being married to another would constitute spiritual adultery, and Jesus never sinned.

This has nothing to do with the present day rule of celibacy in the Catholic church. It's a totally separate issue.

Furthermore, under Jewish law, if Jesus had children, upon his death, his eldest son would be required to take up his "mantle" and become the Messiah.

This was clearly not part of God's plan. Why try to make it so?

Get it?

The primary issue is the way that the book blends fact and fiction. It makes implications that are fictional, but derived from actual fact. Many of its readers believed it to be a work of non-fiction. As far as why the Catholic CHURCH (not religion) does not have priests marry is because of what you can easily read by opening a Bible and turning to 1st Corinthians Chapter 7. You should actually look that up and read it.

Why Da Vinci Code is offending - If the contents are true, it's about something that the world has believed in for the past 2000 years, is FALSE. Nobody want the truth from emerging, especially the Vatican. Imagine what would happen to the world if the truth is out! Chaos! Armageddon perhaps?

I think that Catholic theologians are most upset with the depiction of Jesus as human, and of the variance between Brown's tale and the corpus of Catholic belief. I am quite bemused by the volumes of rebuttal that have appeared against what is, after all, a work of fiction.

Mate, I dunno precisely regardless of while you're making a fact of certainty or a query. on your concepts, Dan Brown;s "Da Vinci Code" is precisely what that's, a singular. as for different thoughts interior the ninety's, like Dan Brown's works, they're all astounding products of inventive novels that are products of brilliantly imaginative minds that make excellant entertainment. regrettably regardless of if, they don't stand a gamble as theological arguments. that's via the fact they continuously save basing concepts on the two incorrect information that have been, as stated, in basic terms existed interior the ideas of the novelist, or attempt to advance arguments that have been tried and examined and failed dismally. as an occasion, Dan Brown will develop, yet another time, the thought Mary Magdaline replaced right into a spouse to Christ and that that they had childeren together, and he based that on a Gospel or 2 from the the Gnostioc era. Now, in as much as those thoughts look intreaging and "contravercial" however the subject of what's cannonical and what isn't is as as previous and as resolved as Christianity itself. So my propose is, in case you desire to follow such novels, with the aid of all ability, I have no issues of them as super novels that seize that audiences interest...yet as certainty, I dunno, I hate to tell you to have faith them and make a fool out of you by using fact it may be like announcing equate those information and archives by using fact they're as actual as a celebrity Wars action picture. God Bless you my pal. i'm hoping this might grant some what of an answer.

Funny how Dan's book is a "what if?" and it insights such volatile thought. people that defend religion use cyclical logic. That is they defend their argument with the argument itself. God is divine because he is God. When talking about a subject defended by a cyclical defense, the only result is an argument. Arguments fume anger. It's simple sociology, yet so many people get angry about it. The anger is similar to road rage. Most people have felt it, yet most will say that they are against it, yet it still happens.

catholic priests don't marry because they don't have room for a wife and a young boy in their bed. the da vinci code basically disproves a lot of the bible and that's why they are all fired up about it.
